In late 2024, The Pokemon Company faced numerous leaks claiming to expose several upcoming Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. At first, many gamers were skeptical about these leaks, but as time passed, it became clear that they were largely accurate. Although the Mega Evolutions have been a significant aspect of the game, The Pokemon Company has only recently begun to unveil them for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. In the last few weeks alone, it announced that Mega Victreebel, Mega Dragonite, and Mega Hawlucha would be introduced in the game. These Mega Evolutions were previously leaked months prior, which lends more credibility to the initial reports.
In addition to Mega Victreebel, Mega Dragonite, and Mega Hawlucha, there could be approximately 23 other Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A that haven’t been revealed yet. Among these unannounced Mega Evolutions, the one generating the most controversy among Pokemon fans is rumored to be a new form for Starmie, a Pokemon originating from Generation 1. Recently, an image of what appears to be Mega Starmie’s in-game model was leaked online, and many fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with its design.
Mega Starmie’s Leaked Design Has Caused a Lot of Controversy
In many instances, The Pokemon Company has used Mega Evolutions to amplify and enhance the appearance of existing Pokemon, making them even more striking. Unlike several other Mega Evolutions, Starmie’s potential Mega Evolution in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” might not undergo a significant change in type or appearance; instead, it appears that it will only receive an addition of two long front legs, retaining its original look.
In neither Pokemon Legends: Arceus nor Pokemon Scarlet and Violet could you obtain Starmie, but if it’s present in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, this would signify its return to the mainline Pokemon games for the first time since Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

On social media, many fans have widely criticized the leaked Mega Starmie appearance, stating it appears goofy and lacks originality. Some have gone so far as to suggest it resembles a hastily created 3D model by an enthusiastic Pokemon fan, not a genuine Pokemon design. Given the overwhelmingly negative feedback towards Mega Starmie, it might have been more suitable for The Pokemon Company to make this a regional form alternative instead of a Mega Evolution.
Mega Starmie’s Design Fits a Regional Fake More than a Mega Pokemon

In the world of Pokémon, particularly in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, regional variants often sport quirky appearances, contrasting with their more naturally-occurring counterparts. For instance, Wiglett, a Water-type Pokémon, bears a striking resemblance to Diglett but sports white skin instead of brown. Toedscruel, a dual Ground/Grass type, on the other hand, shares a likeness with Tentacruel but has legs in place of tentacles. Similarly, Wugtrio, the evolved form of Wiglett, is reminiscent of Dugtrio, but has red skin and appears more elongated.
Sadly, It’s Probably Too Late for Mega Starmie’s Appearance to Be Changed
In a hypothetical scenario, if The Pokemon Company altered Mega Starmie’s color scheme and transformed it from an aquatic Pokemon to one that resides on land, it could blend seamlessly with the fake regional Pokemons showcased in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This revised design might be more palatable for players. However, due to Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s imminent release within a few weeks, it appears unlikely that this modification will be implemented before the game’s launch. Consequently, gamers may have to endure the quirky appearance of this leaked Mega Starmie design in the game.
