Players of Pokemon Pokopia are bringing a long-standing Mew rumor to life within the game. It appears many players, who may have once believed the myth themselves, are working to recreate it.

When I first started playing Pokemon, Mew was this incredibly elusive creature. It was one of the original 151, but you couldn’t actually get it in the game normally. The game data was there, but unless you used cheats, found a glitch, or went to a special Nintendo event, you were out of luck. But that didn’t stop everyone, including me, from trying to find a way! It really fueled a lot of the rumors and myths about Mew in the first generation games.

Pokemon Fans Recreate the Iconic Mew Truck Myth

Players of the online game Pokemon Pokopia are recreating a popular myth from the early days of Pokemon. Many are building habitats for the rare Pokemon Mew on a digital version of the S.S. Anne, a ship from the original Pokemon Red and Blue games. Although Mew was never officially linked to the S.S. Anne in the games, a widespread rumor claimed you could catch Mew by moving a truck near the ship using the Strength move. While players quickly discovered the truck couldn’t be moved and Mew wasn’t there, these Pokemon Pokopia players are now fulfilling the legend by placing Mew exactly where fans believed it would be all those years ago.

And Togepi actually debuted in the show before the Generation 2 games came out, so everyone was scrambling to find it in the original Red and Blue versions. Of course, you couldn’t actually get them, but that didn’t stop us from trying! It makes me wonder if fans of the new Pokémon Pokopia will start spreading similar rumors about Pokémon we haven’t even seen yet.
