Pokemon Reveals New Pikachu and Snorlax Forms

The world of Pokemon just got a little more exciting with the announcement of new looks for Pikachu and Snorlax! These redesigned Pokemon will appear in the upcoming game, Pokemon Pokopia, a relaxing life simulation title. Pokemon has often given its most popular creatures different forms – think Mega Evolutions or regional variations like Alolan and Hisuian forms – but these new designs for Pikachu and Snorlax are already being hailed as some of the best alternate forms the franchise has seen in a long time.

Revealed at the Nintendo Direct in September 2025, Pokemon Pokopia is a promising new game that blends elements of Pokemon, Minecraft, and Animal Crossing. Players will work together with Pokemon to build and customize their own island paradise. The game is scheduled to release on March 5, 2026, and will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. Players with the original Nintendo Switch can still join their friends’ games using the GameShare feature.

Pokemon Pokopia Introduces Peakychu and Mosslax

A detailed new trailer for Pokemon Pokopia is now available on the official Pokemon YouTube channel. The trailer highlights several new gameplay features in this relaxing Pokemon game, including the player character, Ditto, transforming into Lapras to surf and Dragonite to fly. The 10-minute video also reveals three new Pokemon forms: Smearguru, a colorful, paint-splattered version of Smeargle; Peakychu, a pale Pikachu with droopy ears; and Mosslax, a grass-covered Snorlax with a flower blooming on its head.

Pikachu is the face of the Pokémon series and has received many updates over the years, including different colors and costumes. However, aside from its Gigantamax form in Pokémon Sword & Shield, Pikachu has never had a completely new design. The same goes for Snorlax. While both have received Gigantamax forms, Smearguru from Pokémon Pokopia is the very first alternate design ever created for the Pokémon Smeargle.

Koei Tecmo hasn’t officially explained how Peakychu, Mosslax, and Smearguru will function in Pokemon Pokopia. However, it’s likely these new forms will give the player’s Ditto character new skills, much like how Bulbasaur lets you grow plants and Squirtle allows you to water them. Another possibility is that these forms are new characters who will give you quests to complete, offering rewards that help you develop the island.
