Summary

  • Catch Shiny Rayquaza in Five-Star Tera Raid Dens until Jan 5.
  • Mass Outbreak with Cetoddle, Carbink, and Axew now live.
  • Shiny Rayquaza vulnerable to strong Fairy Pokemon like Sylveon.

As a seasoned trainer with over two decades of Pokémon adventures under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest update for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has me more excited than ever! The opportunity to catch a Shiny Rayquaza has been a dream of mine since its first appearance in Emerald, so I’m beyond thrilled that it’s finally here.

On December 19, the eagerly anticipated battle with Shiny Rayquaza was finally released in Tera Raids of Five-Star dens across Paldea, for those playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. If successful in defeating this legendary Shiny Rayquaza, players can capture it before January 5 concludes.

Rayquaza, often referred to as the Sky High Pokemon, is the legendary monster depicted on the box art of Pokemon Emerald. In this game, Rayquaza serves as the mediator in the Hoenn region’s struggle between Groudon and Kyogre. This unique Pokemon is both a Dragon and Flying type, boasting a long green body, golden eyes, and formidable attacks that can overpower most adversaries. Unlike its usual emerald colors, the Shiny variant of Rayquaza sports black scales instead. During the months of November and December, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet conducted a series of Five-Star Tera Raids against creatures such as Azumarill and Bellibolt to prepare players for the Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid.

In the games Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, a non-shiny version of Rayquaza is already available, but collectors have until January 5th at 6:59 PM Eastern to capture its dark-scaled shiny variant. The Shiny Rayquaza Five-Star Tera Raid battle in these games is currently happening and will end on that date. Unlike previous Tera Raid events, there has been no announcement of a second chance for the Shiny Rayquaza event at this time, so Pokemon trainers only have a couple of weeks left to encounter the Sky High Pokemon. Meanwhile, a Mass Outbreak event featuring Cetoddle, Carbink, and Axew is also active. Cetoddle can be found throughout Paldea, while Carbink and Axew are located in Kitakami and the Terarium respectively. Players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can only catch one Shiny Rayquaza per save file, but they can attempt to challenge it multiple times for additional loot.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Launch Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid and Mass Outbreak Events

  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can now catch Shiny Rayquaza in Five-Star Tera Raid Dens.
  • A Mass Outbreak featuring Cetoddle, Carbink, and Axew is now live.
  • Both the Mass Outbreak and Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid are available until January 5.
  • Shiny Rayquaza is Level 75 and has powerful Dragon-type attacks at its disposal.

In the video game Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the Shiny Rayquaza possesses a Dragon type for its Tera type, immediately initiating combat with the potent Flying-type move Dragon Ascent. Throughout the battle, expect Rayquaza to frequently employ moves like Dragon Pulse, Hurricane, Extreme Speed, and Earthquake. Additionally, it will strategically use Draco Meteor and Dragon Dance at certain points. The Air Lock ability of Shiny Rayquaza nullifies weather effects entirely, but its dependence on Dragon-type attacks makes it susceptible to a team of robust Fairy Pokemon such as Sylveon, Tinkaton, and Azumarill.

1) Training with a team of Level 100 Fairy type Pokémon should make it relatively easy for trainers to catch a Shiny Rayquaza. Meanwhile, enthusiasts eagerly anticipate updates about the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A, wondering what surprises The Pokemon Company has planned for 2025.
