Pokemon Sun and Moons Cut Eeveelution Explained

Pokemon Sun and Moons Cut Eeveelution Explained

As a lifelong Pokemon enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution (no pun intended) of Eevee since its humble beginnings in Generation I, I must admit that the recent revelation of a scrapped Flying-Type Eeveelution from Sun and Moon left me absolutely flabbergasted! It’s like finding a hidden Pokeball in your grandma’s attic – a treasure long lost but never forgotten.

In the world of Pokémon, Eevee is undeniably one of the most adored characters due to its distinctive designs. Eevee and Pikachu are often side by side in popularity, and the diverse evolutions of Eevee aren’t far behind Pokémon’s mascot. Interestingly, the absence of a new “Eeveelution” in recent games has sparked some worry, but recent whispers have brought clarity to this issue.

The latest Eevee evolution introduced in the game was Sylveon, a Fairy-Type introduced during Generation 6 along with the introduction of the Fairy type. Sylveon, undeniably, has been well-received and continues to be popular among fans. Interestingly enough, no new Eevee evolutions have emerged since then. It now appears that this absence was not without reason, as recent leaks of Pokemon reveal plans for a previously unknown Eeveelution that were scrapped.

Pokemon Sun and Moon Leaks Reveal a Scrapped Eeveelution

Pokemon Left a Significant Gap in Eeveelutions After Sylveon

The Teraleak originated directly from Game Freak, with Centro Leaks sharing a significant amount of this information on their Twitter account. This leak, which is extensive, has revealed detailed character histories and intricate lore about the Pokemon universe as a whole. However, it’s the beta designs, cut content, and unreleased Eeveelution that have garnered the most attention. Even with all the stunning designs already leaked, the unveiling of an unseen Eeveelution remains the most surprising revelation to date.

Initially appearing in “Pokemon Red and Blue”, new forms of Eevee, or Eeveelutions, were frequently added until Sylveon was developed. Given that each Eeveelution should be a distinct Type compared to the others, it might seem that this would restrict the developers’ choices. However, this isn’t accurate at all, as there are only eight Eeveelutions in contrast to the eighteen different Pokemon Types.

Initially, three Pokemon were developed as a group, but later on, four more were introduced in sets of two pairs. This arrangement made Sylveon’s addition to Pokemon X and Y seem unexpected, as some believed it was to avoid overshadowing the new Fairy Type. Yet, there were those who speculated that a future game would continue the trend by introducing another Eeveelution.

Pokemon Generation 7 Almost Gave Players the Eeveelution That Never Was

It seems that Game Freak initially aimed to fulfill these expectations, as revealed by leaks of Pokemon Sun and Moon. These leaks hint at plans for an Eeveelution focusing on Flying Type, which unfortunately didn’t make it into the final game. The leaked information even suggests that a complete design was developed for this concept, but the official artwork was not digitized.

In simpler terms, since the design isn’t digitized, it appears to be a physical artwork confined within Game Freak’s office. This makes it difficult for enthusiasts to access it, but given past instances like Mega Jynx and other undisclosed designs, there’s hope that fans might get a peek at the original design eventually.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t hide my excitement over the rumored Flying-Type Eeveelution from Generation 7. However, its absence has left me pondering – why was it cut in the first place? The initial leak from Centro hinted that the developers decided against it because they felt the design was too similar to fan ideas. Hearing this feels like a punch to the gut, as it implies that many other potential concepts could have been discarded for the same reason.

The leak isn’t all bad news, as developers expressed in the very same comment that the concept could have very real potential in the future. This was spoken mostly in the context of a game in which the Flying-Type Eevee would be the “main character”, which unfortunately seems rather unlikely at this point. Regardless, the fan reception to the mere idea of a scrapped Eeveelution should be enough to signal that there remains a very clear demand for a brand-new Eeveelution to show its face, whatever its design may be.
