Pokemon TCG Fan Gets Incredibly Lucky Opening Packs from the New Expansion

A devoted fan of the Pokemon Trading Card Game had an unbelievable stroke of luck by drawing one of the most sought-after cards from 2025 not once, but twice. This rare find stemmed from Black Bolt and White Flare, a fresh release in the Pokemon TCG that presents two sets as a joint expansion to honor the pocket monsters of Unova.

172 new playable cards have been introduced by Black Bolt, among which are 19 Pokemon ex cards like Genesect, Meloetta, and Kyurem. Similarly, White Flare offers 173 new cards, including 19 Pokemon ex such as Reshiram, Keldeo, and Hydreigon. Besides these cards, Black Bolt and White Flare include six exclusive Support cards, three Item cards, a special Energy card, and one Tool card in each set. However, the most sought-after cards are the Black White Rare cards because of their scarcity and unique design. Interestingly, a Pokemon Trading Card Game enthusiast recently discovered one of these rare cards in an unexpected circumstance.

On the r/PokemonTCG subreddit, user md_christ excitedly posted about an unexpected find from the latest expansion: a pair of Black & White Rare Victini cards. They detailed how they opened an Elite Trainer Box containing both Black Bolt and White Flare packs, and pulled a Victini from each box. Apart from this double fortune, they also scored some exceptional cards such as Thundurus, Tornadus, and Serperior ex full art, along with the special rare edition of the Hilda card, who is the female main character in the Generation 5 Pokemon games.

What Makes the Black White Rare Victini Card So Special?

Among the highly sought-after cards in the Black Bolt and White Flare collections is Victini: Rare Black & White. This particular card features an illustration of the pocket monster against a single-toned red backdrop, triumphantly making a victory sign. If drawn from Black Bolt, the card bears the number 171, and based on PokeDATA records, it can retail for approximately $589.96; however, one collector went above and beyond, acquiring an ungraded version for $975. For those lucky enough to draw Victini from White Flare, the card carries the number 172, with PokeDATA reporting a price of around $557. The site also highlights some staggering prices, such as two raw copies that were sold for $1,299.99 apiece.

In the latest expansion for Pokemon TCG, Victini is a card that often requires luck to obtain, but it’s not the only rare card you can find. For instance, Black Bolt packs might contain a Zekrom ex Black & White Rare, which has a striking monochrome black illustration. Conversely, White Flare packs could yield a Reshiram ex of the same rarity, with a monochrome white background.
