Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Think They’ve Figured Out The Next Crown Rare Item

Players of Pokemon TCG Pocket believe they’ve discovered a clue about the next special ‘Crown Rare’ card. They’re basing their theory on a long-standing pattern within the Pokemon Trading Card Game franchise. While the mobile game’s second year has brought many strong cards, the recent set is missing something, which suggests exciting possibilities for what’s coming next.

The December release of the Crimson Blaze set for Pokemon TCG Pocket significantly impacted the game, adding strong new Mega Evolution Pokemon to complement those from the Mega Rising set. The Mega Evolutions of the original Kanto starter Pokemon have become particularly popular, greatly improving Grass, Water, and Fire-type decks. Though not the largest set released to date, Crimson Blaze includes enjoyable Trainer cards, such as Serena, who assists players in getting their Mega Evolution Pokemon into play.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Next Crown Rare Item May Be Water-Based

Fans are speculating about which item card will next receive the ‘Crown Rare’ designation – the most rare type of Pokémon Trading Card Game card, marked by a gold crown and metallic gold background. Only five Crown Rare cards were included in the recent ‘Crimson Blaze’ set, featuring Pokémon like Aegislash and Klefki, as well as the item cards Flame Patch and Quick-Grow Extract, which benefit Fire and Grass decks. Because Fire, Grass, and Water-type Pokémon often appear together in the video games, some believe the next Crown Rare item will be designed to help players build Water-type decks.

It’s just a theory, but some cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket could potentially become Crown Rares. For example, the Fishing Net card, which debuted in the Celestial Guardians set, lets players retrieve Water-type Pokemon from the discard pile. Some Crown Rare cards, like Quick-Grow Extract, are released alongside their regular versions. However, other times, existing cards get a special upgrade – a golden background – when they reappear in later sets.

With the recent introduction of Flame Patch, which adds Fire-type energy to Pokémon, many players are hoping for a special version of Misty’s classic Pokémon TCG card. Misty’s card, originally from the Genetic Apex set, has been a part of the game since the beginning. It allows players to repeatedly flip a coin, attaching Water-type energy to a Pokémon for each heads result. However, some believe this card shouldn’t qualify for a special treatment because it’s a Supporter card, not an Item card. This disagreement has sparked a discussion about creating a new card that would let players search their deck for Misty, as she could potentially control a match right from the start.

It’s currently uncertain whether the developers will finish creating the complete set of Crown Rare item cards. After celebrating the one-year anniversary of Pokemon TGG Pocket, new card releases have become less frequent. During the first year, a new set of cards came out almost every month. The first set of the game’s second year, Mega Rising, launched in late October 2025, but the next one, Crimson Blaze, wasn’t released until December 17th. While the next set hasn’t been officially announced, if the current release pattern continues, we can expect it to arrive in late January or early February.
