After weeks of anticipation and whispers, the wait is over! The long-awaited A2 set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, titled Space-Time Smackdown, has officially arrived. We now have confirmation of its release date, a list of the new cards it contains, and much more.
As anticipated, the long-awaited A2 Set discussion has materialized. In the New Year 2025, Pokémon TCG Pocket will debut a fresh set named Space-Time Smackdown, which seems fitting for its intriguing name (more details soon). This new set marks a substantial leap from the mini-set format of Mythical Island.
Genetic Apex has been consistently providing the app with playing cards, but it’s now time for Space-Time Smackdown to introduce new twists to the game strategy and daily ritual of unwrapping card packs.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Space-Time Smackdown Release Date
The game Space-Time Smackdown makes its initial appearance in the Pokémon TCG Pocket on Wednesday, the 29th of January. On the following day, Thursday, January 30th, it will be launched globally.
It appears that Space-Time Smackdown will simultaneously launch worldwide. Notably, New Zealand players will enjoy the latest update ahead of others due to the time difference, which means they’ll get to play on January 29th first. This pattern is consistent with most game releases, and Pocket follows suit in this instance.

Which Generation is Pokémon TCG Pocket Space-Time Smackdown Set?
The 4th Generation of Pokémon is the focus of Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown A2 Set.
It was generally assumed that, just like in the Pokémon series, the sequence of events would follow geographical progression. Genetic Apex primarily focused on the Kanto region. However, contrary to expectations, instead of moving on to Johto for the second set, it took a different direction.
I’m pleasantly surprised as it means to expect the unexpected.
The development teams are planning to shake things up and keep us guessing, which could lead to some thrilling Mon in Space-Time Clash: Pokemon like Infernape, Bidoof, Kricketot, Kricketune, Mismagius, Munchlax, Glaceon, and many others will likely be involved.
Trading Added Ahead of Space-Time Smackdown
Trading arrives on January 28—the day before Space-Time Smackdown gets underway.
The feature will be available in the game prior to the release of A2 Set Booster Packs; we’re thrilled that trading is finally here! Implementing it just before launch allows our team to fine-tune its functionality before Space-Time Smackdown goes live. Plus, you can use those final hours to trade cards with friends and complete your decks, giving you a fresh start when the new set arrives.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel my heart pound with anticipation before each new event unfolds. My collection of hourglasses is overflowing, and every resource is at the ready for the Space-Time Smackdown tournament. Are you equally excited about it? Frankly, I wasn’t expecting Gen 4 to take center stage as A2’s main focus, but I’m intrigued by this unexpected twist!
While you’re waiting for Space-Time Smackdown, take a look at these updates:
1. The news about the temporary Pokémon Center in London.
