Summary
- The patch notes for the January 29 Pokemon TCG Pocket update have leaked online.
- The changelog promises that the upcoming trading feature will eventually support more cards.
- The patch notes also confirm the arrival of Pokemon Tools, a new Trainer card subtype debuting as part of the Space-Time Smackdown expansion.
It seems that details about the upcoming changes in the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket have been accidentally shared early. This unexpected update about the modifications appeared online, a full day before the corresponding Pokemon TCG Pocket patch was due to be released.
On Wednesday, January 29th, the global release of an update for the Pokemon TCG Pocket will take place, featuring Space-Time Smackdown – the third card expansion in the game. This new addition primarily concentrates on pocket monsters from Generation 4.
Before the official release of the update, the full patch notes have been leaked online. These notes gained popularity on social media thanks to rumor aggregator CentroLeaks, even though they didn’t mention their original source. However, the presence of two Unix timestamps instead of a common date format suggests that this leak may have originated from a data mine related to the Pokemon TCG Pocket. The timestamps point to the late evening hours (PST) on January 29, which is when the new expansion is set to be launched, as indicated by the patch notes.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Trading Will Get Better—Eventually
The log for updates also verifies the introduction of Pokemon TCG Pocket’s card trading functionality, as previously declared. Initially, this feature will only allow trades for lower-tier cards, which can be recognized by up to four diamonds or a single star. Cards with two and three stars, as well as gold cards marked with a crown, will not initially be tradeable. However, developer DeNA hinted that these restrictions might be revised in the future based on player feedback, particularly after receiving criticism about the game not permitting trading of its most precious cards. The recently unveiled patch notes suggest an even greater change by explicitly stating that the range of tradeable cards will eventually broaden.
The changelog also spotlights Pokemon Tools, a fresh category of Trainer cards for the Pokemon TCG Pocket series coming with the Space-Time Smackdown set. As the name implies, these card types can be bestowed upon Pokemon as permanent accessories they keep while in play. Typically, these items will enhance the holder’s stats, although some may have unique abilities. A single Pokemon can only possess one tool at any given time.
Beyond these points, the leaked update log reveals enhancements to the deck auto-building system’s logic, along with some text tweaks. Additionally, new themed packs focused on the Space-Time Smackdown expansion are included, as well as a set of “Step-up Battles.” Players of Pokemon TCG Pocket will find these update details in their in-game mailbox on January 29.
