After a very successful 2025, which included popular sets like Prismatic Evolutions and Destined Rivals, Pokémon is starting 2026 strong with this new release. Ascended Heroes is the first expansion of the year and is generating a lot of excitement among fans.

The Pokémon Company is giving fans a sneak peek at its first major expansion coming in 2026. Called Ascended Heroes, the set features Mega Dragonite on its cover and will include Mega Evolution versions of the Starter Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Z-A in the trading card game. The expansion will also build on popular game mechanics from 2025, adding new Owner Pokémon, Stellar Tera Pokémon, and more. Ascended Heroes is the Pokemon TCG’s Biggest Set Ever

A recent report from the popular Pokémon TCG website PokeBeach suggests exciting things are coming in the next set, called Ascended Heroes. This expansion is expected to include over 70 different “secret rare” cards, featuring new types like Illustration Rares, full art cards, and Special Illustration Rares. In total, Ascended Heroes will have an impressive 295 cards across all versions and rarities, with over 200 unique cards in the main set. This makes Ascended Heroes the largest Pokémon TCG set ever released, surpassing the previous record held by the 2021 Fusion Strike set.

The Ascended Heroes expansion for the Pokemon Trading Card Game has a lot to offer players, with both brand-new cards and beautiful reprints of older favorites. Several popular cards from 2025, like N’s Zoroark ex, Iris’s Fighting Spirit, and Fezandipiti ex, are getting updated artwork. Plus, new Pokemon and characters from the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A game will make their first appearance in the Pokemon TCG, including Canari and Corbeau. The Ascended Heroes expansion is set to release on January 30th.

Ascended Heroes Will Kick Off Pokemon’s 30th Anniversary With a Bang

The upcoming Ascended Heroes expansion will introduce a new card rarity called “Mega Attack Rare.” These cards will feature the name of the Pokémon’s attack prominently displayed in the artwork and will only be available for Mega Pokémon ex found within the set. Seven Pokémon will initially have these special cards. This is the second new rarity type added to the Pokémon Trading Card Game since Mega Evolution cards were first released, following the introduction of Mega Hyper Rare cards.
