Pokemon Unite Getting New Game Mode, But There’s a Catch

Key Takeaways

  • Pokemon Unite features fan-favorite Pokemon and allows customization with “Holowear.”
  • According to a leak, Pokemon Unite is introducing a new Auto-Battler mode.
  • The leaked mode is reportedly only coming to China for now.

As a dedicated Pokemon fan since I was a kid, growing up with Ash and his Pikachu, it’s always exciting to see new developments in the Pokemon universe. With the recent leak of an Auto-Battler mode coming to Pokemon Unite, it feels like we’ve stumbled upon a hidden path leading to an unexplored area of the Kanto region!

It seems that the popular MOBA game from The Pokemon Company, called Pokemon Unite, is rumored to introduce an auto-battler mode. However, unfortunately, this new feature is only accessible for players in China at the moment. Pokemon Unite is the company’s strategic team battle game, available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, offering various customization options for an immersive player experience.

On July 21, 2021, the release of Pokemon Unite was met with enthusiasm by most Pokemon enthusiasts. This game showcases a variety of beloved Pokemon, ranging from legendary to common species. The players can personalize their Pokemon’s appearance using “Holowear,” distinctive costumes for each creature. Each Pokemon also has a specific role, such as Defender, Attacker, All-Rounders, and others.

On Twitter, Centro LEAKS shared promotional artwork by Chico Eevee featuring an “Auto Chess” mode. Similar to Team Fight Tactics within League of Legends, Auto Chess is a genre born from multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games, also known as an “Auto Battler.” In this game type, players summon characters to engage in combat inside a small arena. Each Auto Battler has its own distinct twist on the concept, with different heroes or, in this instance, Pokemon. Although it appears that this game mode is approaching soon, there’s a restriction as it will only be accessible in China at first.

Pokemon Unite Leak Reveals Auto-Battler Mode

In the game, Pokemon Unite has just introduced three fresh characters – Armarouge, Darkrai, and Psyduck. Among them, Armarouge is a range-attacking Attacker, Darkrai is a melee-attacking Speedster, and Psyduck falls under the Supporter category with user-friendly ranged abilities. Unlike other Pokemon in Unite, Psyduck does not transform into its evolution form, Golduck.

For over three years now, Pokemon Unite has been consistently rolling out thrilling updates. During its third anniversary, this year, they unveiled a fan favorite legendary Pokemon joining the game – Ho-oh! This iconic bird Pokemon from the 1999 release of Pokemon Gold Version for Game Boy is now available to play as a MOBA character. Ho-oh’s role is Defender, making him a ranged fighter with a straightforward playstyle that newcomers can grasp easily. He excels in the bottom lane, though the top lane is also an option. Starting August 11, 2024, players can purchase Ho-Oh for 15,000 Aeos Coins or 840 Aeos Gems. Earlier, it was exclusively obtainable through the Divine Forest Challenge event held from July 19 to August 12. Pokemon Unite remains a free-to-play game, and we’ll see if the rumored new auto-battler mode expands to additional regions in the future.
