Pokemon Winds and Waves Fan Designs Their Own Take on Gecqua’s Evolution Line

A passionate fan of the upcoming Pokémon Winds and Waves has imagined what the evolution line for the Water-type starter Pokémon, Gecqua, might look like. Gecqua is one of the three new starter Pokémon in Generation 10, alongside the Grass-type Browt and the Fire-type Pombon. Since the game was announced in late February, the developer, Game Freak, hasn’t shared any information about how these starters will evolve or revealed details about the other new Pokémon coming in the game.

The official game descriptions in Pokemon Winds and Waves call Gecqua the “Water Gecko Pokemon,” known for shooting water from its tail. Its special ability, Torrent, makes its Water-type attacks even stronger. Since Pokemon Winds and Waves takes place in a world inspired by Southeast Asia, many players believe Gecqua and its evolved forms might be based on creatures from the region’s mythology.

Even before the official release, fans of Pokemon Winds and Waves are already creating artwork inspired by the game’s characters, including their own ideas for how the new Generation 10 starter Pokemon will evolve. One Reddit user, Serbero, recently shared their take on the evolution of Gecqua, imagining it as a Water and Psychic-type Pokemon. They named the evolved forms Tailash and Shengong, keeping Gecqua’s distinctive eyelashes but adding longer tails and more vibrant colors. Serbero drew inspiration from the Chinese dragon god Shenlong and the Balinese Legong dance, which is famous for its complex steps and detailed hand movements.

Fans of Pokemon Winds and Waves loved the artwork shared on Reddit, with many hoping the official evolution of Gecqua would resemble it. Several people specifically liked that the fan-created Pokemon were Water and Psychic-types, as this combination isn’t typical for starter Pokemon. Other fan art depicting Gecqua’s evolution also features Water/Psychic types and maintains the lizard-like design.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Details So Far

While Game Freak hasn’t revealed much about Pokemon Winds and Waves yet, they might be releasing information gradually leading up to the game’s 2027 release. Beyond the new Generation 10 starter Pokemon, the game introduces unique Pikachu variants – Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu – both dressed for vacation. Gameplay will be an open-world adventure set on a new island, featuring a large ocean and vibrant ecosystems filled with Pokemon. The reveal trailer suggests players will be able to explore diverse environments, including jungles and potentially underwater areas, for a classic tropical island experience.

Everyone is really excited about the new Pokémon games, Pokémon Winds and Waves, especially because of the starter Pokémon. However, many questions remain, most notably who the legendary Pokémon will be. In past games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, these legendary Pokémon – Miraidon and Koraidon – also served as unique modes of transportation. One popular idea is that Winds might feature a Flying-type legendary, and Waves a Water-type, fitting with the games’ themes. With over a year until the 2027 release, fans will have to be patient for more information. Luckily, other Pokémon games like Pokémon Pokopia and the remakes Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are keeping many players entertained in the meantime.
