Power Rangers: 10 Strongest Sixth Rangers in the Series, Ranked

Power Rangers is a hugely popular action series inspired by the Japanese show Super Sentai. It typically features a team of five teenagers, each distinguished by a different color. Over time, most versions of the show have also included additional Rangers – often a sixth, but sometimes even more.

It’s common in Power Rangers for a villain to be under a spell or curse, and once that’s broken, they often join forces with the Rangers. However, not all additional Rangers – the ‘sixth Rangers’ – are equally successful. While some don’t quite fit in or meet expectations, others feel like natural members of the team.

10. Cosmic Fury’s Orange Ranger, Fern, Is One of the Longest Serving Canon Orange Rangers

Fern’s Addition Has Many Fans of the Color Orange Absolutely Elated

I’m really excited about the Orange Ranger in Cosmic Fury! It’s awesome to see a new take on the color, especially since she’s part of what a lot of fans think is the best Power Rangers team yet. Plus, she’s one of the first to officially be an Orange Ranger on screen – we’ve seen hints before, but never a full appearance! And honestly, I’m thrilled she’s dating Izzy, the Green Ranger. It’s a huge moment for the show to finally have an official LGBTQ+ couple, and it’s just really heartwarming to see that representation.

Fern is a skilled fighter with the same abilities as the other Cosmic Fury Rangers, plus her unique Solono claw. She pilots both the Chameleon Zord alongside another ranger, and her primary Scorpion Zord. Like her teammates, Fern’s design is inspired by dinosaurs, though the overall look of the Rangers feels a bit excessive.

9. Cam Watanabe’s Green Samurai Ranger Feels Like a Reskin of the Original Green Ranger

Cam Only Gets His Powers After a Trip to the Past\

Cam Watanabe is usually the one working behind the scenes, but he suddenly found himself thrown back in time on a bizarre mission. When he returned, he gained the power to transform into the Green Samurai Ranger! His look is different from the other Ninja Rangers, and his fighting style matches his unique costume. While he’d rather support from the sidelines, Cam is a skilled fighter when he needs to be. He’s just as well-trained as the other rangers, but with a much sharper mind.

Cam starts out lacking practical experience, but he quickly grows during his time as a Ranger. While he doesn’t directly lead the Ninja Rangers, he’s essential to helping them become their best. In fact, Power Rangers Ninja Storm likely would have ended much sooner without his contributions. He even plays a crucial role when the Ninja Storm team crosses over with the Dino Thunder Rangers.

8. Dino Charge’s Gold Ranger Is Often Considered The Best of the Modern Sixth Rangers

Sir Ivan of Zander Has one of the most Interesting Backstories in Power Rangers History

Many fans criticize newer seasons of Power Rangers for straying too far from the original series or being too geared towards younger audiences. However, the Gold Ranger from Dino Charge shows that the show can still capture the spirit of its earlier seasons when it wants to. Sir Ivan of Zander isn’t just a strong fighter—he has a fascinating history, being a true knight with hundreds of years of battle experience.

The Gold Ranger from Dino Charge is part of a special team called the Legendary Dino Rangers, which brings together every Power Ranger who ever used a dinosaur theme. While Sir Ivan is a really strong and memorable modern Ranger, he didn’t get as much focus as some other sixth Rangers before him. However, his awesome powers and unique look definitely make up for that.

7. Power Ranger Turbo’s Phantom Ranger Remains the Most Mysterious Ranger in History

The Phantom Ranger’s Identity Has Never Been Officially Confirmed

The Turbo Phantom Ranger is one of the most enigmatic characters in the entire Power Rangers series. Originally intended to be revealed as the original Blue Ranger, Billy, his real identity was never made clear. He helps the Turbo Rangers multiple times during their season, but always keeps his face hidden. Because he was never officially unmasked, who the Phantom Ranger really is remains the biggest mystery in Power Rangers history.

The Phantom Ranger is famously hard to see, boasting some of the best invisibility in the Power Rangers universe. He’s capable of defeating entire groups of enemies on his own. Many fans believe the Phantom Ranger is actually Billy Cranston, wanting to operate secretly, but this has never been confirmed. Unfortunately, the show never officially revealed his identity, leaving it a mystery.

6. Trent Fernandez-Mercer Is the Original White Ranger’s White Ranger

Trent Even Gives an Aged Tommy Oliver a Run For His Money Several Times

Trent Fernandez-Mercer holds a unique place in Power Rangers history as the first Sixth Ranger to be a Sixth Ranger. When Tommy Oliver returns to help a new team of teens, the villain Mesagog brainwashes Trent to torment Oliver. Trent causes significant problems for the Dino Thunder team, but quickly becomes their most valuable ally once he breaks free from Mesagog’s control.

As the White Ranger, Trent can blend into his surroundings and teleport, making him a very powerful fighter. Although Mesagog later created a copy of him, Trent was able to defeat the clone himself. This shows Trent was becoming stronger as a Ranger, and likely would have continued to improve if he’d been trained by Tommy Oliver.

5. Antonio Garcia’s Gold Samurai Ranger Moves Incredibly Quickly

The Gold and Blue of his Costume Works Incredibly Well

Antonio Garcia, the Gold Ranger, is often considered one of the quickest and most skilled fighters in the series. He commands the power of light and is a highly capable combatant. Beyond his tech expertise, he has the unusual ability to communicate with fish, which explains why his giant robot forms, or Zords, are often water-based. While he wasn’t a typical Power Ranger, Antonio is undeniably powerful.

Antonio, like the other Samurai Rangers, has many powerful abilities and upgrades, making him a very strong Ranger. He was also unique because he mastered using his transforming device all by himself – a rare feat in the show’s history. Unfortunately, many viewers didn’t recognize his skills.

4. Anubis Kruger’s S.P.D Shadow Ranger Is One of the Most Popular “Mentor” Rangers

The Shadow Ranger Has an Incredibly Unique Design

Anubis Kruger is arguably one of the most impressive Rangers ever created. Unlike many Rangers defined by a color, he’s known as the Shadow Ranger, and his look perfectly matches that mysterious title. While his design suggests shadow-based powers, he primarily uses his signature Shadow Saber. Still, Kruger is a remarkably strong and capable mentor figure, and a formidable opponent in battle.

Having led Space Patrol Delta for years, he’s become one of their strongest fighters. His alien biology gives him an edge in combat compared to typical rangers. While important duties often keep him from fighting, he always appears when truly needed. A common complaint from fans is that the Shadow Ranger didn’t get enough opportunities to showcase his abilities.

3. Mystic Force’s Wolf Warrior Ranger Is an Incredibly Powerful Warrior

He Serves as One of the Rangers’ Minor Antagonists Throughout the Series

As a huge fan of Mystic Force, I was completely shocked by the Wolf Warrior’s story! For most of the series, he was a seriously tough villain, always causing trouble for the Rangers and doing Octomus’s bidding. But then, the big reveal! It turned out he was actually Nick’s dad, and had been brainwashed the entire time! Once Nick was able to break Octomus’s control, his dad became one of their most powerful allies. It was such a great twist and a really emotional arc!

Leanbow is an incredibly skilled swordsman, practically in a league of his own. He’s an ancient knight who could almost defeat all five rangers in battle. Once he fights his old master, it’s clear why Octomus chose to control him rather than destroy him. Luckily, Leanbow gets a chance to make things right before he’s forced to do something truly awful.

2. Jason Lee Scott Gives Tommy a Taste of His Own Medicine As the Gold Zeo Ranger

Scott Returns to the Rangers Briefly After His Mighty Morphin’ Retirement

A truly memorable moment for Power Rangers fans was when Jason Lee Scott came back as the Zeo Gold Ranger. He was the very first Gold Ranger ever, and his introduction to the team was similar to Tommy Oliver’s. Unlike Oliver, though, Jason never turned to the dark side while wearing the gold suit. Plus, his Zeo Ranger design is widely considered the best of the entire Zeo team.

Scott, as the first Red Ranger, is a skilled fighter. However, becoming the Gold Zeo Ranger gave him even more powers. While Jason wasn’t the first Gold Zeo Ranger, he’s become the most well-known and many newer fans don’t realize anyone else held the role before him.

1. The Original Green Ranger Remains the Most Powerful Sixth Ranger

Tommy Oliver Started the Trend of Having a Sixth Ranger

Tommy Oliver’s debut as the Green Ranger is legendary. While he initially appears as an enemy, he quickly becomes one of the most beloved and important Power Rangers of all time. Many fans even consider him the defining Power Ranger. He wasn’t just the first sixth Ranger, he started the tradition of adding a sixth Ranger to the team. Tommy Oliver truly changed the game for Power Rangers, and he’s remained a key part of the show ever since.

Oliver is by far the Power Ranger who’s been on the show the longest, but he first became known as the Green Ranger. While he took on many other Ranger roles throughout the series, none were as popular. Even in newer seasons, he often returned as the Green Ranger. Over his amazing career, he’s held a lot of important positions as a Power Ranger.
