As a gamer, I’m sharing some news that hit me hard: FuturLab’s CEO, Kirsty Rigden, announced on social media that they’ve had to step back from supporting PowerWash Simulator VR for now. The reason behind this tough call is to ensure job stability across the company. Instead of letting go of team members working on the VR version, they’ve been reassigned to other projects and roles within the company. It’s a tough break for us VR gamers, but I appreciate their focus on securing everyone’s future at FuturLab.
In other words, though you can still find this game in online marketplaces, there won’t be any more add-ons, patches, or assistance provided for it.
‘You Must Be So Disappointed’
In the post on Twitter (X), Rigden wrote:
I apologize for any inconvenience, but unfortunately, we can’t maintain our support for PowerWash Simulator VR at the moment. However, please note that our admiration and faith in virtual reality remain unchanged. This decision is only temporary, and we might resume support for it in the future.
We’ve encountered a difficult decision point: Our outstanding and compassionate VR team has been developing an expensive platform, yet we have open positions on other projects needing staffing.
Instead of shifting our Virtual Reality (VR) team onto different tasks or roles, we opted to reallocate them there. Although it’s appealing to extend our assistance to PowerWash Simulator across all available platforms, I prioritize the stability and employment of my team above everything else.
Though I understand your dismay, I firmly believe that if our situations had been reversed, we’d both have acted similarly in this instance.
I’ve sampled a bit of PowerWash Simulator VR on the Meta Quest 3, and it’s an extraordinary, almost therapeutic, experience that ranks among the best I’ve indulged in. The original game was enjoyable, but the VR version brings me closer to what I’m cleaning, which is helpful in locating those elusive specks of dirt hidden on unseen areas.
