Gaming has been fantastic recently, with so many amazing games being released that will be remembered for years to come. As we move into a new year, the upcoming games for 2026 already look very promising across all types of genres. Plus, there are even a few titles further in the future that are already generating a lot of buzz.
These upcoming games are being made by both major studios hoping to launch their next hit, and smaller teams trying to innovate. While a few are currently planned for 2027, predicting a game’s release date is often difficult, even for the developers themselves.
Exodus
The Next Big Sci-Fi Adventure

- Choice-driven narrative across several worlds
- A range of weapons and enemies for constant combat freshness
Exodus is an engaging single-player RPG set in the distant future. Players take on the role of a leader battling the Celestials, a formidable race of evolved humans. The game combines fast-paced, third-person combat with a story that reacts to your choices, making those decisions truly matter.
The game’s story is the main attraction, and the world it builds is shaping up to be fascinating, featuring things like mechanical octopus creatures, massive cities, and multiple planets to explore, each with its own distinct environments and characters. Plus, with Matthew McConaughey lending his voice to the cast, players can expect a truly special experience when the game releases in 2027.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst
Bringing Back Gaming’s Leading Lady
Details:
- Primarily set in Northern India after the events of Underworld
- Incorporates lore from the second reboot trilogy
Okay, so Tomb Raider has been quiet for a while, but I’m super excited because Catalyst is about to bring it back! It picks up after the story from the 2008 game, Underworld, and I’ll get to play as Lara again, checking out old ruins and racing against other treasure hunters in the gorgeous forests of Northern India. It sounds awesome!
Like previous games in the series, this new installment centers around exploring environments and solving puzzles to reveal the secrets of a mysterious location and the people trying to control it. While the next major game isn’t due until 2027, fans can currently experience Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a complete remake of the first game, to hold them over until then.
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons
Dark, Gritty, And Full Of Magic
Details:
- Third-person action adventure
- Spell and melee-based combat
Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) has become incredibly popular recently, boosted by hit games like Baldur’s Gate 3. But there’s another exciting fantasy experience on the horizon. The upcoming game, Warlock, is generating a lot of buzz, and its dramatic trailer suggests a dark and immersive adventure.
The game will be an open-world RPG focused on both close combat and magic. Each spell will have a purpose and impact within the game world. If the developers succeed, it has the potential to become a major player in the crowded RPG market, despite strong competition both now and in the future.
Frostpunk: 1886
Humanity’s Last Hope
Details:
- More than just a remake
- New mechanics and ways to progress
Frostpunk: 1886 revisits the harsh, frozen world of the original Frostpunk, but with significant improvements and a lot of new content. It’s more than just a visual upgrade – the developers say around 70% of the game is familiar, while 30% is entirely new, offering a fresh experience for both newcomers and longtime fans.
The game still centers around managing the city of New London and dealing with all its problems. However, the biggest new feature is mod support, letting players create and add their own content. This should greatly extend the game’s lifespan, even before it officially releases.
Project TAL

- South Korean devs with a big budget
With so many games based on Japanese and Chinese myths, it’s refreshing to see something different. Project Tal aims to introduce Korean mythology to gamers, offering a stunning open-world environment filled with both enemies to battle and people to help.
Although still under development, details have emerged about the game’s unique companion system. These companions will react to your choices and playstyle, encouraging multiple playthroughs. Developed by a team known for successful RPGs, the game aims to deliver a compelling story and addictive gameplay that will appeal to all RPG enthusiasts.

The game offers a compelling blend of exciting gameplay and a richly detailed world. Players can explore a stunning alternate history and become immersed through engaging factions and storylines woven into the city’s fabric. With its impressive graphics, the game is quickly gaining popularity among fans of open-world adventures and role-playing games.

Naughty Dog Strikes Again
Details:
- Mysterious story on an alien planet
- Fairly long development cycle
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is a fresh start for Naughty Dog, being their first completely new single-player game since The Last of Us. The story centers around Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter portrayed by Tati Gabrielle, who finds herself stuck on the remote planet Sempiria while chasing a dangerous criminal organization.
The game promises a vast and meaningful story, blending the visual style of anime with familiar science fiction themes to create a unique world for players. Given Naughty Dog’s history of making excellent games, there’s high hope that this new project will be just as impressive.
Supreme Experiment
A Different Kind Of Cyberpunk Story
Details:
- Cinematic-level locations
- An interactive film approach over traditional gameplay loops
Supreme Experiment is a highly anticipated game that players will want to watch. Though it wasn’t featured at The Game Awards, its first trailer revealed a stunning world set in a future where machines rule and impossibly tall structures dominate the landscape.
The creators describe this game as more like an interactive movie, aiming for a unique gameplay experience that focuses on enhancing the story and visuals rather than following typical game patterns. While it’s a bold project from a relatively new studio, it has the potential to be something special if everything comes together.
NO LAW
Stealth And Action In A Futuristic Metropolis
Details:
- Different gameplay approaches depending on the player
- Single character narrative focus
In NO LAW, you’ll explore a chaotic cyberpunk city where your choices matter. The game prioritizes freedom, letting you approach challenges with stealth, direct combat, or by avoiding conflict altogether. No matter how you play, the city will change and react to your decisions over time.
The game aims to create a captivating experience through detailed environments and compelling stories, rather than simply making a huge world. It encourages players to explore upwards and downwards, while still providing ample space to move around. Its darker, more realistic style helps it stand out from other space games, and it has the potential to be a truly memorable sci-fi RPG that influences future games in the genre.

It also mixes challenging tactical gameplay with a captivating story, making it a really exciting game to watch, even if you’re not a big sci-fi fan.
