Predicting Borderlands 4's New Trailer's Release Date

As a die-hard fan of the Borderlands series, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Borderlands 4! It’s been far too long since we last ventured into the chaotic world of Pandora, and I am eager to explore this new planet that Gearbox has in store for us.

Following a significant delay, the eagerly anticipated sequel, Borderlands 4, is due for release in 2025. Although the Borderlands franchise has remained active over the past few years, it’s been over five years since a new main entry was launched. As of now, Gearbox Software hasn’t unveiled any gameplay footage for Borderlands 4, but it appears that this installment will show some notable differences from its predecessors in various aspects. Unlike the previous games in the series, for example, this one is set on a completely new planet instead of Pandora. While we’re still unsure about how different the setting and story of BL4 will be compared to the original Borderlands trilogy, fans likely won’t have to wait much longer to learn more.

Randy Pitchford, a founder of Gearbox, has shared on Twitter that they are working on a new trailer for “Borderlands 4,” which he called “awesome.” Despite being asked not to talk about the trailer just yet, Pitchford couldn’t help but share the news because of his enthusiasm. He didn’t mention an exact release date for the “Borderlands 4” teaser, but considering the current season, it’s possible to make some informed predictions.

Fans Will Most Likely Get a New Look at Borderlands 4 During The Game Awards

2024 is drawing to a close, yet the hype surrounding gaming news isn’t fading just yet. Gamers are well aware that December remains a significant month in the video game industry, largely due to The Game Awards. Although Geoff Keighley’s annual awards ceremony has faced criticism for its on-stage handling of recipients and contentious nominees, it continues to excite with announcements from various game developers, both established and up-and-coming. Moreover, it consistently gathers massive crowds every year, making it a viable alternative to E3 in today’s context.

At The Game Awards 2024, which is scheduled for December 12, there’s a strong possibility that Borderlands 4 will be featured. Given that the event is fast approaching, it seems quite likely. If Gearbox doesn’t plan to debut the new Borderlands 4 trailer at The Game Awards (TGAs), it would be unusual for Pitchford to announce it so close to the TGA date. Previously, Borderlands 4 was first unveiled at Gamescom Opening Night Live, another event hosted by Geoff Keighley. Therefore, a reveal at The Game Awards wouldn’t be unexpected.

If Borderlands 4 is a No-Show at The Game Awards, It May Make An Appearance At a State of Play

Of course, there is always a chance, no matter how small, that BL4 doesn’t show up at the TGAs. If that does happen, then one can assume that the game’s new trailer will be revealed during one of the annual gaming presentations at the start of 2025. The most likely candidate in this instance is the PlayStation State of Play. Sony tends to host SoPs during the first quarter of each year, so it is probable that it may have another presentation at the end of January or early February. Since Gearbox has shown off its games at State of Plays in the past, there is a possibility that Borderlands 4 may be revealed here.

Xbox also kicks off the year with shows such as January’s Developer_Direct and March’s Partner Preview. However, since significant AAA third-party games usually don’t premiere at these events, it appears unlikely that Borderlands 4 would be presented in either one of them.

Borderlands 4 Showing Up At the Switch 2 Reveal Event is Possible, But Unlikely

One possible, though extremely rare, possibility is that the long-awaited game “Borderlands 4” could debut at the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling event, scheduled before March 2024’s end. While “Borderlands 4” has yet to be confirmed for a Nintendo console, given that the first three games in the series are compatible with the current Switch, it’s not entirely implausible to speculate that it might release on the Switch 2 simultaneously with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, possibly even as a launch title for the new system. If, hypothetically, the Switch 2 is revealed in January, it would make perfect sense for “Borderlands 4″‘s new trailer to be unveiled at that event.
