As a die-hard VALORANT fan with years of virtual battlefields under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of admiration for Riot Games and their commitment to nurturing the esports scene. The staggering figures they’ve been sharing about the VCT 2024 campaign are nothing short of astounding!

Riot Games is consistently highlighting the expansion of its VALORANT competitive gaming landscape, having concluded two seasons of its global collaborative tournament series. Similar to how it manages League of Legends, Riot has self-managed the entirety of VALORANT esports since the game’s release in 2020.

At the onset of the 2025 VALORANT Champions Tour season, Riot Games unveiled the year-end earnings from their 2024 campaign, showcasing another substantial sum amassed through player expenditures.

Here comes the money

In 2024, as stated by Riot, a portion of $44.3 million from digital merchandise was distributed among the teams participating in VCT, which is an increase from the $33 million shared in 2023. With a total of 44 teams competing across four leagues in the previous year, this equates to approximately $1 million per team. Since Riot retains half of the revenue generated from digital merchandise, it indicates that players collectively spent about $88.6 million on VCT-themed digital goods.

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to delve into the digital treasures we’re discussing: the VCT partner team capsules and the Champions bundle. At the beginning of this year, Riot Games unveiled the highly anticipated VCT partner team capsules, with both teams and fans eagerly waiting for them. Each team got their unique bundle, featuring a Classic pistol skin tailored to the team, a self-designed player card, a charming gun buddy (or logo charm), and a spray showcasing their logo. By the kickoff of the 2025 season, we can expect new capsules to hit the market!

A significant attraction for digital items is the annual Champions pack, featuring exclusive weapon skins and accessories honoring the VALORANT global championship. For the first time this year, all partnered teams were given a portion of the Champions bundle earnings, not only the 16 teams who qualified for the competition.

Over the course of partnerships, Riot Games reports distributing a total of $78.4 million among 44 different teams, encompassing digital rewards, stipends, and winnings from prize pools.
