‘Probably An Iron Man’ Suicide Squad Star Wants To Join The MCU

Summary

  • Many top actors have joined the MCU, but some actors have not due to other superhero movie commitments.
  • The MCU continues to expand with new franchises, opening up opportunities for fresh characters and actors like Viola Davis.
  • Davis, a fan of the MCU, expressed interest in playing a Marvel character, potentially as a superhero, villain, or similar role to her Amanda Waller character in DC.

Currently, it’s rare to find leading actors who haven’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as demonstrated by the star-studded cast of the latest Avengers movie, “Avengers: Doomsday.” Yet, there are a few actors yet to make an appearance in a Marvel Studios film, largely due to their commitments to other popular superhero franchises like The Suicide Squad.

Fortunately for those performers, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to thrive and generate fresh opportunities for new characters. In fact, this year alone, Marvel Studios is unveiling two brand-new franchises: The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts. As a result, there’s plenty of room for newcomers to shine in the future. Even though Marvel may have certain individuals earmarked for specific roles, when an actress as gifted as Viola Davis expresses interest, it’s hard not to notice.

The award-winning actress with an EGOT under her belt is widely recognized as one of the most gifted personalities in the current entertainment scene, and she’s never run short on chances to showcase her abilities. Although Davis primarily delves into dramas, she ventured into the realm of superheroes when she joined the cast of Suicide Squad in 2016 and its 2021 sequel. Recently, Davis discussed her fondness for this genre with Entertainment Weekly, expressing her readiness to embody a Marvel character. She mentioned, “Definitely, yes. I’m not sure which hero I would portray. You know, my daughter is a Marvel enthusiast, so I’ve seen most of them about five or six times. Even she has a character in mind for herself – something like ‘Iron Mania’ or ‘Iron Shaniqua Mania.’

Despite Marvel Studios’ intentions regarding Iron Man content post-“Avengers: Endgame” remaining uncertain, it’s definite that Davis expresses interest in participating in some aspect of their projects. She showcased her talent as Amanda Waller, a tough and assertive government agent who wasn’t afraid to challenge formidable anti-heroes in the “Suicide Squad” films for DC Studios. It’s possible that she could assume a similar role within the MCU at some point down the line. Whether she appears as a superhero or a villain, such a casting decision would undoubtedly be thrilling.

Davis’ participation in a DC Studios film doesn’t necessarily mean she won’t join Marvel. Actors like Idris Elba, Ryan Reynolds, Willem Dafoe, and Michael Keaton have switched between superhero franchises in the past, and having Davis do the same would be an appealing option for fans.

It’s advantageous for Marvel Studios to have an actor like Davis, who is enthusiastic about the MCU and aspires to join the franchise. Her impressive acting skills only add to the appeal of this scenario, and we can hope that she becomes a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
