On August 19, 11 new games have been incorporated into PlayStation Plus. As with most library updates, many of these fresh additions are accessible with a standard PS Plus Extra subscription. However, there are a limited number of games that necessitate the higher-tier Premium membership to play.
Since the reorganization of PS Plus into three tiers in mid-2022, Sony has generally adhered to a consistent schedule for its service. Specifically, free games for the PS Plus Essential tier are released every first Tuesday of the month, whereas the Extra and Premium tier games appear on the third Tuesday.
Today, August 19th at around noon ET, the most recent update to the catalog took place. This early rotation gives PS Plus subscribers access to a total of 11 new games. The newly available titles cover a variety of genres, with heavy-hitters like Spider-Man Remastered and Mortal Kombat 1 joined by popular indie releases such as Harold Halibut and Coral Island. Additionally, Earth Defense Force 6, Sword of the Sea, Indika, Unicorn Overlord, and Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End and the Secret Key are also included in the August 2025 PS Plus lineup.

Two remakes from Capcom’s “Resident Evil” series, specifically the updated versions of the second and third games in the series, have been included in the latest update to PlayStation Plus. These modernized editions are now accessible exclusively to PS Plus Premium subscribers. On the other hand, nine additional titles can still be played with a more affordable PS Plus Extra subscription.
Generally speaking, Sony doesn’t reveal the duration that PS Plus Extra and Premium games will be available ahead of time. They haven’t done so for this case either. In the past, many games added to the service have remained for at least a year. However, first-party games often stay on longer. While some first-party games have effectively become permanent offerings, there is indeed a history of Sony removing its own games from the service, such as Horizon Forbidden West which was taken off PS Plus in September 2024.

Anticipating Sony’s usual pattern for announcing PS Plus updates, we can expect the next announcement on August 27th. This is when the company is likely to unveil the free Essential-tier games for September 2025. Moving forward, it’s worth noting that seven games are slated to depart from both the Extra and Premium libraries in the upcoming month. These include UFC 5 and The Plucky Squire.
