PlayStation Plus has had an uneven start to the year. While late 2025 offered some fantastic free games, January and February were less impressive, particularly for Essential members. January’s lineup included Need for Speed Unbound, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Core Keeper – good games, but appealing to a limited audience. Unfortunately, February 2026’s free games don’t include any major, widely popular titles either.
- Subnautica: Below Zero
- Ultros
- Ace Combat 7
- Undisputed
While PlayStation Plus Essential hasn’t had many major free games this year, Subnautica: Below Zero is one of the highlights. However, the original Subnautica was previously offered for free during the Play at Home event. The expansion’s reception has also been slightly affected by the mixed reaction to the announcement of Subnautica 2, which will heavily feature AI.
Honestly, looking at the lineup, it feels like another pretty weak month for PlayStation Plus. Three of the games are either super small indie titles like Ultros, appeal to a really specific audience like Ace Combat 7, or just didn’t get great reviews – Undisputed comes to mind. It’s the second month in a row where things feel a bit…meh. I’m guessing the PS Plus Extra tier will have to really come through with some good games again, just like it did in January, to save the month.
Honestly, it’s still really weird that Sony hasn’t said anything definitive about whether they’ll stop supporting PS4 games on PS Plus in 2026. They promised they’d clarify things, and I’m still waiting! It’s just adding to all the confusion.
PS Plus Extra’s February 2026 Lineup Could Be a Silver Lining
We don’t yet know which games will be added to PS Plus Extra in February, but previous months have included several popular titles. Looking back at the last six months, PS Plus Extra consistently offered at least two major games – something the lower-tier Essential plan hasn’t been able to do recently.
| Games | Month |
|---|---|
| Mortal Kombat 1, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Sword of the Sea, Earth Defense Force 6, Unicorn Overlord, Atelier Ryza 3 Alchemist of the End and The Secret Key, Indika, Harold Halibut, Coral Island | August 2025 |

| Silent Hill 2 Remake, Until Dawn Remastered, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, V Rising, Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1, As Dusk Falls, Wizard With a Gun | October 2025 |
| Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 5, Pacific Drive, Still Wakes the Deep, Insurgency: Sandstorm, Thank Goodness You’re Here, The Talos Principle 2, MotoGP 25 | November 2025 |
| Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Cat Quest 3, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Paw Patrol: Grand Prix, Paw Patrol World, Planet Coaster 2 | December 2025 |

The games offered in this selection are consistently impressive. August delivered major titles like Mortal Kombat 1 and Marvel’s Spider-Man. September brought a fun Persona 5 spin-off and a surprisingly accessible WWE 2K game – you don’t need to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it thanks to the creative options. October was perfect for horror fans with Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2, while November celebrated Rockstar Games with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption (which later received a performance boost). December offered a challenging soulslike game and a classic Assassin’s Creed experience. Overall, even if other subscription tiers have their ups and downs, the Extra tier has consistently provided excellent value for a long time.
PS Plus has been consistently good lately, so it’s likely the February games will be impressive, even if there’s always a small chance of disappointment. Similar to the Essential tier, PS Plus Extra isn’t afraid to include games from a variety of genres, which often leads to players finding hidden gems – like the relaxing game Coral Island.
While PS Plus Extra generally offers two or three big, popular games – something the older PS Plus Essential sometimes did – recent months haven’t been as strong. The game selection has been a bit weak lately, resulting in two unremarkable months for subscribers.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.

Even if Extra Ends Up Covering For It Again, PS Plus Essential Desperately Needs to Step It Up in March
Look, PS Plus Essential will probably always have some subscribers because you need it to play online in a lot of games. But honestly, if they keep giving us games nobody wants, I think a lot of us will cancel. Unless you’re really into racing or flight games, those freebies like Need for Speed Unbound and Ace Combat 7 just aren’t enough to justify the cost. The good news is, PS Plus Extra has shown they can add some really popular games alongside the more niche stuff. I’m hoping Extra pulls through again this month and that Essential takes notes and brings a better lineup in March. They really need to step it up!
