PS Plus Extra Losing 5 Games in August 2024

Highlights

  • Five titles, including Destroy All Humans 2, are leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium in August 2024.
  • PS Plus subscribers are able to play the newly announced departures until August 20.

As a dedicated gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment as yet another wave of games leaves the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog. The news that Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed, NBA 2K24, Need For Speed Unbound, SpellForce 3 Reforced, and Trials of Mana will all be departing on August 20 is a bitter pill to swallow.

Starting from August 2024, the higher-tier subscriptions of PlayStation Plus, namely Premium and Extra, will no longer include “Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed” and four other games. For PlayStation Plus members, this means they have approximately one month left to enjoy these games before they’re removed from their subscription libraries. Unfortunately, this timeline may not be sufficient for players to complete all of them.

On the third Tuesday of every month, Sony changes the collection of games available on its subscription service. In addition to adding new games and taking away some that were previously accessible, this update also signals which games will soon be removed from PS Plus. The most recent rotation took place on July 16, resulting in the departure of around six titles from both PS Plus Extra and Premium.

As a passionate Sony subscription service user, I’m excited to share that five more games are joining the roster in August 2024. These include “Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed,” “NBA 2K24,” “Need For Speed Unbound,” “SpellForce 3 Reforced,” and “Trials of Mana.” Based on Sony’s past content additions and removals, we can expect these titles to depart from PS Plus Extra and Premium on August 20, likely around 9am ET.

Subscribers of PS Plus have a whole month’s notice before some games get taken down, giving them ample time to explore a few of the August departures. For instance, “Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed” boasts a relatively brief single-player campaign, with an average playtime of around 11 hours based on HowLongToBeat data. On the other hand, gamers may need up to 25 hours each for non-completionist runs of “Need For Speed Unbound” and “Trials of Mana.” Lastly, those looking for a lengthier adventure can delve into “SpellForce 3 Reforced,” which offers a more extended campaign.

As a big JRPG gamer, I’d highly recommend giving “Trials of Mana” a try if you haven’t played it yet. It’s currently available for free with PS Plus Extra and Premium. Trust me, the remake of this classic game from 1995 is definitely worth your time. Plus, it’ll help get you ready for “Visions of Mana,” the first new entry in the series in almost 18 years, which comes out on August 29th.

During this period, the July 16 update brought nine fresh games to PS Plus Extra. Newcomers include “Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion,” “Remnant 2,” and “Steep.” Additionally, “Deadcraft” and “No More Heroes 3” have joined the lineup. The “Jackbox Party Pack 9” and “Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Complete Edition” are also among the recent additions. Sony will reveal the games coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium in August on the 14th.
