PS Plus is on a 3-Month Streak That I Hope Doesn’t End Soon

The top-tier offering of PlayStation Plus, known as the Extra tier, has been releasing games on their first day, and it seems there might be even more to come. Similar to Xbox Game Pass, the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus occasionally offers day one games, enhancing the overall value of the service. While this isn’t a regular occurrence every month, 2025 has witnessed an abundance of day one releases on PlayStation Plus Extra.

On February first, the PS Plus Extra library welcomed a new game named “Lost Records: Bloom & Rage – Tape 1“. In April, we saw not just one but two additions: “Tape 2” from the same series and the critically acclaimed “Blue Prince“, which has garnered exceptional reviews and stands among the top-rated new game launches of the year. The impressive run continued in June with the debut of “FBC: Firebreak“, a PS Plus Extra release from Remedy Entertainment.

In June, Firebreak didn’t set the world ablaze upon its addition to the PlayStation Plus Extra service, but it still marked a significant milestone for the platform. As always, day one games are highly anticipated for the service. PlayStation Plus maintained this trend by offering Abiotic Factor in July, allowing subscribers to enjoy a popular co-op survival game with distinct Half-Life undertones without any additional cost beyond their existing subscription fee. In August, the PS Plus Extra streak continues with Sword of the Sea, set to debut as a day one game on August 19 and become part of the roster for subscribers.

Day One PS Plus Extra Games for 2025

  • Lost Records: Bloom & Rage (Tape 1 – February/Tape 2 – April)
  • Blue Prince – April
  • FBC: Firebreak – June
  • Abiotic Factor – July
  • Sword of the Sea – August

For those new to the scene, “Sword of the Sea” is an enchanting action-adventure game crafted by the art director who brought us “Journey” and other titles such as “Abzu” and “The Pathless”. The stunning visuals of “Sword of the Sea” have been captivating since its debut, and it’s poised to be another strong choice among the day one PS Plus Extra games.

As of now, we’re unsure about all the games that will be available for PS Plus Extra in August, or those scheduled for September, October, November, and December. It could go either way; September might bring a new game exclusively for PS Plus Extra members, but it’s also possible that the service’s run of three consecutive months may end at that point. For the moment, PS Plus Extra subscribers can carry on enjoying the 2025 day one releases and eagerly anticipate the addition of “Sword of the Sea” to the collection, which is set to occur on August 19.
