Summary

  • Sony’s new PS5 firmware patch aims to enhance system usability, with rumors of a Gears of War Collection release in August.

Typically, Sony provides an overview of changes with each PlayStation 5 firmware update, except when it’s just a routine update focusing on system stability.

In simpler terms, the recently released update for the PS5 from Sony includes several enhancements, and hidden within these changes is an extra feature that could easily be overlooked, which improves user experience.

PlayStation Store Functionality Improved With Latest PS5 System Update

A user on Reddit noticed an unmentioned yet pleasant adjustment in the latest PS5 firmware update. Earlier, users could only add up to 100 games to their PlayStation Network (PSN) wishlist, but following the update, this limit has been expanded to a total of 188 games.

It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s still a nice improvement.

The official changelog of that update included:

  • We’ve made it simpler to view details about activities.
    • Activity details are now fully displayed on cards.
    • Potential spoilers will still be hidden.
  • Unicode 16.0 emojis are now supported. You can use them in your messages.
  • When you set the parental controls’ restriction level to Late Teens or Older, Communication and User-Generated Content will now default to Restrict. If you have previously set the level to Late Teens or Older, your previous settings will not be affected and it will be shown as Customize.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.

Using the PSN Store’s wishlist function is like having a “discount tracker” for games. When you add a game to your wishlist, you’ll receive an alert if that specific game goes on sale. However, it’s important to note that you should specifically add the variant of the game you’re interested in. For instance, if you only want the base game and the Deluxe Edition gets discounted, you won’t be notified. The recent system update is intended to give players more flexibility when adding games to their wishlist.

It remains unclear when the next PlayStation 5 system update will come out, along with its features, but Sony recently launched a new beta program last month that invites both PS5 and PC users to try out upcoming software updates before they are officially released.

If you’re trying to get your hands on a PlayStation 5, an online retailer is currently offering a fantastic deal on the slimmer version, complete with an impressive bonus item. Additionally, the PSN Store Spring Sale is ongoing, featuring discounts of up to 70% on various games.
