Summary

  • Front Mission 3: Remake is coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 26.
  • The modernized version of the classic PS1 SRPG will retail for $34.99.
  • Front Mission 3: Remake is likely to expand to additional platforms in the near future, although publisher Forever Entertainment has not yet confirmed any further ports.

It’s been announced that the remake of “Front Mission 3” will be available on Nintendo Switch starting from June 26th. At this point, it’s unclear if the updated version of this PlayStation 1 classic will also release on other platforms.

The “Front Mission” series originated from Square in 1995, well before Square merged with Enix in 2003. The primary games in this mech-focused franchise are turn-based role-playing titles. The initial game was exclusively available on the SNES in Japan, but was later ported to WonderSwan Color, PS1, and Nintendo DS. In contrast, “Front Mission 2” and “Front Mission 3” were exclusive to the PS1. During the Nintendo Direct event in February 2022, Polish developer-publisher Forever Entertainment announced a remake of the first game called “Front Mission 1st: Remake“, which was released in November of that year. A revamped version of the sequel, titled “Front Mission 2: Remake“, followed in 2023.

In the near future, Forever Entertainment plans to release the remake of Front Mission 3, a title previously announced with a confirmed launch date – June 26th. Similar to their previous Front Mission remakes, this new game will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch and will retail for $34.99. At this time, it remains undecided whether pre-orders will be available for the Front Mission 3 remake. The project’s release date announcement trailer acknowledges Polish developer MegaPixel Studio as a collaborator on the project.

Front Mission 3: Remake Promises Several Improvements

The remake of Forever Entertainment offers numerous upgrades compared to the original version. These improvements include high-quality graphics, modernized animations, a revamped soundtrack, and a Quick Combat mode that lets players battle separately from the main storyline’s two interconnected narratives. Additionally, customizable camouflage options are being added. The remake is expected to deliver an authentic experience similar to the original _Front Mission 3_, which is renowned as one of the most challenging strategy games ever released on the PS1.

Front Mission 3: Remake Is Likely Coming to More Platforms Soon

It appears that Forever Entertainment’s first two remakes of the “Front Mission” series have been released with demos, indicating a possible demo for the upcoming third mainline remake. However, this is not yet confirmed officially. Additionally, while no non-Nintendo platforms have been confirmed, past release patterns suggest additional ports are likely. For instance, “Front Mission 1st: Remake” was exclusive to the Nintendo Switch for seven months, whereas “Front Mission 2: Remake” was available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox about six months and 25 days after its launch on the Nintendo platform.
