On October 29, the popular MMORPG “Skyforge” will cease operation. By this date, the game will no longer be available on Steam. However, the PlayStation 4 version and other console variants are expected to continue until fall 2025.
Skyforge is a free-to-play MMO that originated from a partnership between the developers of Allods Online (Allods Team) and Obsidian Entertainment, an award-winning studio. Despite receiving mixed reviews initially, it managed to garner some niche awards in its early stages, such as being named MMORPG of the Year by MMOs.com just a few months after its PC release in summer 2015. It was later launched on PS4 in the spring of the following year, and Xbox One users started playing it towards the end of 2017. The game has been available on the Nintendo Switch since early 2021.
Skyforge Confirms Staggered Shutdown Plans
Nintendo’s hybrid console, along with other platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch, will soon no longer host the game Skyforge. Publisher Innova has confirmed that Skyforge is set to be closed down in the coming weeks. The PC version will be shut down on September 3, followed by the console ports on October 29. This delay between the two events may be the reason why Skyforge can still be downloaded on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch as early as August 2025. Interestingly, the original PC version of Skyforge was already removed from Steam and 4game.com on August 1, 2021. Additionally, Innova ceased accepting payments for in-game purchases on that same day, a common practice in the industry when live-service titles are being phased out.

Skyforge Lost Its PC Momentum Years Ago
It seems that since very few people are currently playing Skyforge on PC, it’s likely the main reason the project is being put on hold. According to SteamDB, Skyforge peaked at only 16 concurrent players on Valve’s platform since August 2025.

It appears that the company responsible for “Skyforge” no longer finds it worthwhile to continue operating the game, as it struggles to maintain player engagement and has been experiencing a decline in popularity. In fact, on Steam, the game has been essentially dormant for several years now, with its peak concurrent players last recorded in 2022 at over 100. The announcement of the game’s shutdown did not provide any clear reasoning behind this decision.
Skyforge Going Out With an Experimental Bang
As Skyforge prepares for its closure, players will be given chances to join unique events and try out an array of gear. Further information about this virtual goodbye journey should emerge within a few weeks. Initially, PC users may get the chance to experience these upcoming events before anyone else, as they are set to bid farewell to Skyforge first. It’s also worth noting that four additional games operated by EA will be shutting down in October 2025.
