Previously, Sony marked the 30th year of the PlayStation console with themes for the PS5, which was a long-awaited feature by gamers since the PS5’s debut in 2020. However, at first, users could only choose from a few classic themes. The anniversary update, on the other hand, introduced more than just the famous PS1 start-up screen to the PS5; it also enabled users to personalize their console’s theme based on the designs of the PS1, PS2, PS3, or PS4.

Classic PlayStation Themes Returning This Week

Following the unveiling of the classic 30th anniversary themes for the PS5 in December 2024, Sony decided to take them down on January 31, 2025. However, due to an overwhelming number of users expressing their affection for this feature, Sony announced that these beloved PlayStation themes would make a return in a future update. After a long period of no news, a new blog post confirmed that the iconic PS5 themes will reappear on April 24 as part of a new system software update. According to Sony, the upcoming PS5 update is set for a global release starting from tomorrow, but it will be rolled out gradually, so not all users will get it at once. This means some fans might have to wait a bit longer before the themes return.

Although intriguing PlayStation themes for the PS5 could have marked a unique experience, Sony has clarified they’re not developing any more themes at the moment. Even though fans have been asking for console themes, it seems the studio is holding firm on their current strategy. On the positive side, starting tomorrow, every PS5 user will be able to personalize their home screen with classic designs from PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4.

In addition to reviving familiar motifs, the forthcoming PlayStation 5 software update is set to debut a novel Audio Focus feature. This innovative audio setting is designed to heighten immersion by providing customizable presets that boost subtle sounds, catering to unique hearing preferences. According to Sony, this update aims to deliver a crisper audio experience when utilizing headsets or headphones. Players can locate and adjust these presets under the [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus] menu, enabling them to effortlessly discern various sounds like in-game dialogue, footsteps, party chat voices, and more.
