PlayStation 5 owners have five exciting new games to anticipate in December 2025, including a cooperative action game and a story-focused skateboarding title that will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers from day one. Overall, 2025 has been a strong year for the PS5, with the console featuring some of the very best new releases.

So, I was checking out the Game of the Year nominees for The Game Awards 2025, and it looks like you can actually play four of them on my PS5! Even better, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a PS5 exclusive, which is awesome. I was also really into Ghost of Yotei this year – it’s a beautiful open-world samurai game that got some great reviews, though it didn’t quite make the GOTY cut.

2026 promises to be a huge year for the PlayStation 5, especially with the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 and the exclusive Wolverine game planned for fall. However, there are still plenty of exciting games coming soon! December 2025 already has at least five notable PS5 titles lined up, including Marvel Cosmic Invasion (December 1st), the PS5 version of the critically acclaimed open-world game Red Dead Redemption (December 2nd), and Octopath Traveler 0 from Square Enix (December 4th). Rounding out the month are Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (December 8th) and Skate Story, which will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers on day one (December 8th).

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a cooperative action game where you play as popular Marvel superheroes. It’s made by Tribute Games, the team behind the critically acclaimed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, so it’s likely to be a fun experience to play with friends.

As a huge fan, I’m so excited that Red Dead Redemption is finally getting a proper PS5 release! It is playable on PS5 through the PS4 version, but now it’s going to look and run amazing with 4K resolution and a smooth 60 frames per second. And the best part? They’re including the Undead Nightmare expansion, which adds tons more to an already massive game. If you somehow missed this classic when it first came out, you absolutely need to check out the PS5 version. And if you’ve played it before? It’s a free upgrade from the PS4 version, so it’s the perfect excuse to jump back in and experience it all over again!

Octopath Traveler 0 is a traditional Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) with a beautiful art style called HD-2D, developed by Square Enix. As a prequel to the other Octopath Traveler games, it’s likely to be especially enjoyable for players who love classic RPGs. The main story is expected to take around 100 hours to complete, offering PS5 owners a substantial gaming experience for their money.

This isn’t a complete list of all the new PS5 games coming out in December 2025. Also in December, you’ll be able to play updated versions of Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut and the first two Yakuza Kiwami games, all launching on December 8th.

The release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation 5 is noteworthy because it’s another game from Xbox available on a competing platform. While Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 didn’t receive quite as much praise as the previous version, it’s still a highly-regarded flight simulator. Although this genre isn’t for everyone, it’s surprising to see Xbox release games on PS5.

Lastly, Skate Story is a unique skateboarding game with a story – you play as a demon trying to reach the moon on a skateboard! What’s really great is that it’s available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members at no extra cost, meaning PS5 players can enjoy the full game as part of their existing subscription.
