Sony recently released a new PlayStation 5 update focused on improving the console’s Welcome Hub. The update doesn’t include widespread changes, but it does offer fresh customization options like a background that changes with the seasons and a widget showing your latest game activity.
A PlayStation 5 update released in September 2024 introduced the Welcome Hub, which lets players personalize their console’s home screen. After updating to version 24.06-10.00.00, the Welcome Hub appears every time you turn on your PS5. You can customize it with widgets and backgrounds to display useful info like controller battery life, who’s online, your wishlist, trophies, and other details – all easily visible at a glance.
PlayStation 5’s Welcome Hub Receives New Update
The PS5’s Welcome Hub, which hasn’t been updated much since its release over a year ago, just received a new update! It now includes a changing seasonal background and a handy new widget. This widget lets you quickly see stats from your recently played games – things like total playtime, number of sessions, and trophies earned. If you’ve been spending a lot of time in a game like ARC Raiders, you can now easily check how much time you’ve invested.
Fans are still disappointed with the limited customization options on the PS5. While older PlayStation consoles like the PS3 and PS4 allowed for a wide variety of themes, the PS5 currently only offers the classic PlayStation themes that were originally released for the PS1’s 30th anniversary in December 2024. These themes were briefly removed in January 2025, but thankfully, due to overwhelming fan demand, they’ve returned and are now available to use permanently.
In October, the PS5 got a helpful update that lets users easily find the serial numbers for their console and controllers within the settings menu. While not a major change, it’s convenient to check these numbers without looking at the physical console, and it’s a more noticeable improvement than the typical performance tweaks PS5 owners usually receive.
