- PlayStation’s monthly active users increased by 5%.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but rejoice over the impressive sales figures of the PlayStation 5. According to Sony’s recent quarterly financial report, it seems that the PS5 has just enjoyed its most successful quarter to date!
From October through December 2024, Sony managed to sell approximately 9.5 million units of their products. The surge in sales can be attributed to the launch of the PS5 Pro in November, although Sony did not provide specific details about the breakdown.
Sony’s Gaming Division Continues To Do Well For The Electronics Giant

This increase brings the global total of PS5 sales to 75 million units, boosting Sony’s gaming sector by a substantial 37% over the same timeframe last year.
The worldwide PS5 sales now stand at 75 million units, marking a 37% growth in Sony’s gaming division compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
Besides a notable increase in sales, PlayStation has seen a 5% rise in monthly active users (MAU) compared to the same time last year, amounting to 129 million active users by December 31, 2024. Moreover, overall game sales have surged by an impressive 16%.
Because the games division saw substantial growth during the last quarter, Sony has boosted its projected earnings by 2%.
This game, Astro Bot, stands out all the more when you consider that it is Sony’s sole major release during Q4. Despite winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards, it doesn’t quite match the impact of Sony’s flagship series like God of War or The Last of Us in terms of sheer power.
Despite encountering some turbulence this year, these developments are beneficial for Sony. However, it hasn’t been plain sailing; just last week, the PlayStation Network experienced its longest downtime since the 2011 incident, lasting nearly a month. Fortunately, services resumed after approximately a day of problems, but Sony merely referred to an “operational issue” as the culprit and offered an additional five days to existing PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Absolutely, there was yesterday’s State of Play presentation that unveiled some new video game announcements. The grand finale was the announcement of Housemarque’s upcoming project called “Saros,” expected to launch in 2026. If you missed it, you can catch up on a recap here.
