PS6 Handheld Console May Be Dockable

On August 27th, a source from the gaming industry revealed some details about an upcoming portable PlayStation console, known as the PlayStation 6. The leaked information suggested that this handheld device might have a feature to connect to a TV via a dock, increasing its clock speed. Comparing it to the Nintendo Switch 2’s dock, the leaker highlighted that the PlayStation 6 would display different specifications when used in docked and handheld modes.

Although Sony hasn’t publicly shared details about the appearance of the upcoming PlayStation version, there’s been plenty of discussion about Sony’s future plans. In July, whispers spread that for the third time in a row, both the PS6 and the next Xbox console might incorporate AMD technology, focusing on AMD’s advanced RDNA 5 graphical design. It’s speculated that these new consoles will debut around 2027, though specific release dates have yet to be announced.

New Leak Claims That The PS6 Handheld May Have A Dock

In a new video, a source from the gaming industry who often leaks information gave additional details about the suspected specifications of the portable PlayStation 6, which was referred to as “Canis” in the video. According to a YouTube video uploaded on August 27 by Moore’s Law Is Dead, the portable PS6 will come with a dock that enables it to operate at faster speeds when connected. This dock serves a similar purpose to the Nintendo Switch 2’s dock, boosting performance and allowing the console to run at approximately 1.65 GHz instead of 1.2 GHz in portable mode. When docked, the PS6 handheld is said to offer more than double the ray tracing capability of the PS5 compared to when it’s portable. However, its rasterization performance may be slightly lower than that of the PS5 unless a game is specifically updated for the PS6 handheld version.

The portable PS6 console is said to support playing games from both the PS5 and PS4, just like its non-portable version, and it will be driven by a 6-core AMD Zen 6 processor coupled with RDNA 5 graphics. According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, the computational power of the portable PS6 is expected to be approximately 60% greater than that of the ROG Xbox Ally X, which runs on a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor.

Although Sony hasn’t publicly shared details about their upcoming console yet, it’s important to approach rumors about it with caution. Meanwhile, there are whispers that the next-gen Xbox might surpass the supposed PS6 in terms of power. Therefore, the competition between the next console generations is still uncertain.
