PS6 Handheld Console Will Be Dockable, It’s Claimed

Even though it’s a few years off before hitting the market, we’re getting more details about the upcoming portable PlayStation 6 (PS6).

According to a recent video analysis by Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID), it is suggested that the upcoming handheld PlayStation 6, code-named “Canis”, can be connected to an external screen by being docked.

“Indeed, everyone,” he confirmed. “Various sources explicitly mention that it’s designed to be dockable, much like the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.”

MLID mentioned that the system will include 16 RDNA 5 compute units operating at 1.20GHz when it’s in handheld mode. However, once docked, the speed increases to approximately 1.65GHz.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve heard whispers about some intriguing details regarding the upcoming device. For instance, it seems there’s going to be full compatibility with games from both PS5 and PS4, which is great news for my growing library! It’s also said to pack a punch with 4 Zen 6c cores under its hood. In terms of storage, I notice it features a relatively slower M.2 SSD, but I guess that can be swapped out if needed. The device promises an immersive experience with haptic vibration technology, and it seems to have a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 15W. More juicy details are sure to follow!

It’s reported that both the portable version (PS6 Handheld) and the standard PS6 console will be released towards the end of 2027 or early 2028.

Sony hasn’t officially disclosed or confirmed any specifications about the rumored PS6 handheld that have surfaced recently. Until an official announcement is made, or we can verify its authenticity independently, it’s advisable to approach these reports with caution.
