PS6 Price Predicted to Be $1,000 or More

Industry experts predict the PlayStation 6 could cost around $1,000 when it’s released. Sony recently raised the prices of its current consoles – the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal – which likely means the next generation will be even pricier. While the PlayStation 6 is still several years away – reportedly due to internal delays – the current price increases suggest a higher cost for future consoles.

As a PlayStation fan, I’m really curious about the PS6, and I’ve been hearing some interesting rumors – like a removable disc drive and even a handheld part! But honestly, Microsoft is already giving us a peek at their next Xbox, Project Helix. The buzz is it might be pretty expensive, potentially costing between $1,000 and $1,500. If that’s true, this next generation of consoles could really hit gamers hard in the wallet – it might be a tough time to upgrade!

Industry Analysts Predict PlayStation 6 Could Cost a Minimum of $1,000

Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, told GamesRadar+ that Sony’s recent price hike for its PlayStation 5 is a sign the company is preparing for potential instability in the market. Rising component costs and unpredictable tariffs from the United States are making it difficult to predict the cost of future consoles. Considering the price of the new PS5 Pro, Toto believes a $999 price tag for the PS6 is now a real possibility.

Toto suggests Sony might initially release the PS6 with a high price tag, allowing them to offer discounts and promotions later on if the market stabilizes throughout the console’s lifespan.

GamesRadar+ spoke with Joost van Dreunen, a video game professor at NYU, who agrees with the idea that game consoles are becoming very expensive. He predicts that consoles are heading towards a standard price of $1,000, making them a luxury item for many. This price increase means consoles are losing their appeal for casual gamers, as the next Xbox and PlayStation are expected to cost about the same as a standard gaming PC.

PlayStation’s Recent Price Hike Makes a $1,000 PS6 Prediction Seem Reasonable

  • PS5: From $550 to $650
  • PS5 Digital Edition: From $500 to $600
  • PS5 Pro: From $750 to $900
  • PlayStation Portal: From $200 to $250

Starting April 2, 2026, the price of PlayStation 5 consoles will increase by $50 to $150. The standard PS5 and the digital edition will each cost $100 more, while the PS5 Pro will see a $150 price hike, bringing its new retail price to $900. Considering the PS6 is now anticipated to launch around 2028 or 2029, it’s likely its price could also increase by around $100 when it’s released.

Recent price hikes and delays in releasing new game consoles might be due to a shortage of RAM. This is because companies building AI data centers are buying up a lot of it, causing some RAM makers to stop selling to consumers. While PC gamers are already feeling the impact, it looks like console gaming will be affected too. If the next PlayStation (PS6) really costs $1,000 or more, buying a PS5 now could be a smart move. The PS5 might stay relevant for much longer, with new games being released that work on both PS5 and PS6 to avoid discouraging players with the high price of the PS6.
