PSA: Borderlands 4’s Latest Update Fixed a Major Issue You Probably Missed

The latest update for Borderlands 4 came out on November 20th, and I completely overlooked a significant problem with it. I suspect others may have missed it too, and for good reason. I’ve been busy playing ARC Raiders, but that’s not the only reason I haven’t been playing Borderlands 4 much lately. I really enjoyed the game for a few weeks after it came out, but recently, I just haven’t been as engaged, which is why I didn’t notice this important update detail.

Like a lot of players, I was eagerly anticipating the latest update after weeks of hearing it was coming. The weeks leading up to October 30th were unusual because Borderlands 3 had already received several significant patches. Some of those changes were frustrating, like a fix that weakened a popular strategy, while others focused on improving weaker characters. The long gap between those updates and the one released on November 20th caused me to stop playing for a while. Because of that, I missed a recently resolved issue and don’t feel like I can really take advantage of the fix now that I’ve stepped away from the game.

Borderlands 4 Finally Fixed Its Class Mod Bug

It took over two months, but the developers of Borderlands 4 have finally resolved a frustrating bug with Class Mods. Before the update on November 20th, the game was dropping Class Mods much more often for characters you weren’t currently playing. For example, while I was playing as Vex, I mostly found Class Mods for Amon, Harlowe, and Rafa. While Vex Class Mods did drop occasionally, they were rare, making it nearly impossible to find one that actually helped my character build.

I recently realized I can play Borderlands 4 and enjoy the improved Class Mod drop rates – the official update notes say they’ve been adjusted to be more common for your character. Honestly, it’s my fault I didn’t read those notes carefully, because I was too excited about the release of the first Bounty Pack DLC. I expected the DLC to come out, but I didn’t realize it would be free, and it ended up drawing all the attention away from the update I’d been looking forward to for weeks.

Gearbox likely anticipated players would notice the Class Mod problem, as they specifically highlighted the fix in a recent post on the official Borderlands X account. I actually learned about the resolution through a notification on my computer, which caught my attention with the message “we heard your feedback.”

I’ll probably need to play Borderlands 4 to see if the recent fix works, and it might be enough to get me interested again. But I’ve been spending a lot of time with ARC Raiders, which keeps drawing me back with useful loot, so Borderlands 4 isn’t as appealing right now. Still, it’s probably worth checking out long enough to find a good Class Mod for each of my characters – one that actually enhances the builds I’ve been working on.
