PSA: Pokemon TCG’s Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes Set is a Collector’s Dream, But You’ll Have to be Fast

It’s easy for trading card games to fall into a rut, releasing new sets simply to keep things going without adding much substance for players or collectors. However, the new Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes set for the Pokemon TCG is different. It’s immediately apparent that this set will be highly sought after by fans, players, collectors, and, sadly, those looking to exploit it.

The new Pokémon Trading Card Game set, Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes, highlights Mega Dragonite and introduces other new Mega Evolutions as powerful ex cards, featuring unique artwork. The set also includes stunning Stellar Tera Pokémon ex cards and special illustrations for over 30 Pokémon and Trainer cards. With more than 290 cards total, it’s the largest Pokémon TCG set released so far, making it a truly special collection.

  • Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes starts rolling out on January 30
  • It has high collector value and potential
  • It is likely to be scalped, driving prices higher and denying fans and collectors alike

Pokemon TCG: Why Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes is a Big Deal

The Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes set is huge, with lots of desirable cards. Popular Pokémon like Pikachu, Gengar, Dragonite, and Mewtwo are particularly sought after, and the artwork in this set is stunning. With so many Secret Rare cards, finding the ones you want will be extremely difficult, and buying individual cards will likely be expensive for at least a month. Hopefully, the pull rates won’t be as tough as in the Prismatic Evolutions set, and will be more like the generous Crown Zenith set, but it’s clear that cards from Ascended Heroes will be quite valuable.

The Mega Gengar ex card and others from this set will probably be very pricey right away, and likely remain so for a long time, as their value increases over the years. This set has the potential to be a great long-term investment – buy as much as you can now, hold onto it for ten years, and then sell for a profit. However, this potential value will attract people who buy large quantities, making it difficult for regular fans and collectors to get what they want. If you want to have a chance at buying some cards, you’ll need to be ready and act fast.

The new Pokémon TCG set, Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes, is expected to be very popular, potentially even more so than the incredibly successful Prismatic Evolutions set. Prismatic Evolutions was a huge hit, but it was notoriously hard to buy and prices soared online, with some cards, like Umbreon, reaching around $3,000. It was also difficult to find valuable cards in products. While we hope Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes will be more readily available and have better pull rates, it’s wise to prepare for potentially high prices and the presence of scalpers, just in case.

Best Practices to Deal with Pokemon TCG Scalpers

  • Be patient and do not succumb to FOMO
  • Know where you’re going to buy, how you’re going to purchase from that site, and have payment information ready if not readily uploaded to the site.
  • Buy singles from reliable online marketplaces like TCGplayer for specific cards
  • Support local game stores for fair prices (and check in with them early)
  • Use apps for restock alerts
  • Pokemon Center is best for direct purchases
  • Avoid resale sites like eBay and do not buy from Scalpers
  • IRL: Ask someone selling Pokemon cards about trivia to identify resellers
  • Bonus tip: Avoid “Too Good To Be True” deals as counterfeits are possible

Interestingly, several products are already marking Pokemon Day 2026, the date when the next generation of Pokemon – Generation 10 – is expected to be announced.
