Krafton has unveiled a fresh update for the game PUBG: Battlegrounds, featuring destructible landscapes and numerous gameplay refinements and tuning modifications. This rollout occurred on the PC version of PUBG: Battlegrounds on May 14, with the console edition set to debut on May 22. This update is a step towards Krafton’s broader 2025 strategy, which focuses on introducing sophisticated gameplay elements like interactive environments across multiple maps.

Back in 2017, I discovered PUBG: Battlegrounds – it played a pivotal role in shaping the battle royale genre. Since then, Krafton has consistently worked to refine its fundamental mechanics with updates and additional content. At the peak of its popularity, it was the go-to online shooter game, gracing numerous major esports tournaments. Now, Krafton is aiming to advance the game further in order to meet the demands of a modern online shooter, as competition has become more intense for PUBG: Battlegrounds.

In update 35.2, the standout feature is the inclusion of terrain that can be destroyed on the map Taego. This destructible terrain, first mentioned in the PUBG: Battlegrounds 2024 plan, allows explosives such as grenades, mortars, C4, and Panzerfausts to reshape parts of the map. This empowers players to fashion or eliminate cover, leading to more intricate gameplay and the opportunity for innovative strategies. For those who prefer a stealthier approach, the pickaxe is now accessible in Taego, offering controlled terrain modification, albeit at a much slower pace.

PUBG’s May 2025 Update Includes New Tactical Tools and Cross-Map Changes

In addition to alterations on the map Taego, this update introduces fresh elements to various maps. A new item called Vehicle Camouflage Netting is now operational on two original PUBG: Battlegrounds maps, Erangel and Miramar. This netting allows players to conceal their vehicles more effectively, making it difficult for adversaries to spot the transports and damage their tires. Furthermore, there’s a significant shift concerning Vending Machines. Until now, they were exclusive to Miramar, but they will now appear on Erangel and Taego as well, providing Painkillers and Energy Drinks to injured and parched combatants. There’s even a chance of a rare bonus!

On Erangel, additional features have been introduced such as breakable pots filled with explosives or medical supplies, along with an adjusted loot distribution for items. Beyond these new elements and interactive options, there are also minor adjustments and improvements. For instance, the C4 now gets placed instead of being thrown and is categorized as a Special Weapon. This change makes it easier to deploy. Additionally, the speed of the Inflatable Boat has been boosted, while its weight has been reduced, enhancing its usefulness as a transportation option.

Improvements in performance are noticeable in the patch, making “PUBG: Battlegrounds” run more fluidly. Krafton has announced that unique interactive features previously limited to certain maps will gradually become available on others as well. The intention is to incorporate these elements into all 8×8 maps down the line, promising an exciting future for players.
