KRAFTON has finished the initial alpha test for PUBG Black Budget, their new extraction shooter that blends mystical themes with the battle royale gameplay known from PUBG. If you participated and want to play again, you’ll have to be patient, as another test won’t be happening for some time.
I just read a blog post about the recent alpha test, and it sounds like it went incredibly well! They said they got way more people signing up and playing than they expected, which is awesome for the developers, KRAFTON, and especially exciting for those of us who are really looking forward to a new extraction shooter in 2026 – like me!
Black Budget’s Alpha Was a Success
In the post on Steam, the KRAFTON team wrote about the shutdown of the recent closed alpha:
The recent Closed Alpha Test was more popular than we expected, and we received a lot of helpful feedback from players.
As a player who tried out the game, I’m glad the developers were listening to our thoughts! They used our feedback to really get a feel for what was working – things like how immersive the world felt, how good it looked, and how well the game systems all fit together.
Players repeatedly told us they had trouble clearly seeing what was happening in combat, understanding the situation around them, and staying focused during multiple playthroughs.
Throughout the testing period, we kept finding and addressing reports of unauthorized programs. This led us to continually improve our security and anti-cheat systems.
During testing, some players ran into technical problems like game crashes and instability. These issues definitely affected how well the testing went.
All feedback submitted by players is currently under internal review and analysis.
In our early preview, written while the game was still in development, we guessed that ‘Black Budget’ would have a good start and might even stay popular for a while in the world of extraction shooter games.
The title is strong, but it feels a bit too familiar and might not offer enough new ideas to stand out in the genre. However, the game was well-received by players, had a good visual style, and seemed easier to pick up and play than a game like Escape from Tarkov.
The team concluded their blog post by saying they plan to bring back Coli Island and Black Budget once the game is more polished and ready.
