PUBG’s new game, Blindspot, launched on Steam to a mixed reception. While critics initially liked its unique top-down perspective and tactical gameplay, many players have left negative reviews since its release, expressing disappointment with how the game looks and plays.
Many players have wondered if Blindspot is related to PUBG: Battlegrounds, and the answer is yes. According to Seungmyeong Yang, the production director, Blindspot takes place in a future slightly after the events of PUBG: Battlegrounds. The games also share similar shooting mechanics, as PUBG Studios helped develop Blindspot. However, despite these connections, Blindspot hasn’t attracted as many players as PUBG: Battlegrounds, and player reviews have been mostly critical.
Fans Think PUBG: Blindspot Is a ‘Poorly Executed’ Idea
PUBG: Blindspot launched in Early Access on February 5th and has received a mixed reception on Steam, with over 30% of reviews being negative. Player numbers have also been quite low, especially considering it’s part of the popular PUBG series. On February 9th, SteamDB data showed a peak of just over 3,000 players, a significant contrast to the flagship game, PUBG: Battlegrounds, which usually has over 600,000 players online each day.
Reasons Behind PUBG: Blindspot’s Negative Reviews
- Unintuitive controls
- Uninspired gameplay loop
- Matchmaking and server issues
Reviews for PUBG: Blindspot on Steam show a common trend: many players are unhappy with the game’s controls, and frequently compare it unfavorably to Rainbow Six Siege, calling it a copycat. One player described the controls as “weird no matter how you set them up.” Another stated it’s essentially a Rainbow Six Siege clone, pointing out similarities in characters, gadgets, and gameplay.
Some players struggle with shooting from specific angles. For instance, aiming at an enemy who is crouching requires pressing the CTRL key, which isn’t very intuitive and takes practice. The game feels similar to Rainbow Six Siege in how it plays, but it’s viewed from above. Reviewers have noted a lack of originality, with the most unique aspect being the “shared vision” feature – letting all teammates see through each other’s eyes.
Some players have claimed that Blindspot uses AI, especially when generating in-game characters. However, the game’s official Steam page doesn’t state that AI was used during its creation.
Players, especially those in Australia, have also complained about connection issues due to the game not having servers located in Oceania.
PUBG: Blindspot Has Released Multiple Patches Since Launch
Fans will be happy to hear the game developer is working on fixing problems players have been reporting. Big changes to how the game fundamentally works, like aiming, probably won’t happen, but some things might be made easier to understand based on what players have said. The team has already released four updates, mostly to fix issues with finding matches. It’s still uncertain if these updates will be enough to convince players to return and improve the game’s reviews on Steam.
Just a heads-up that PUBG: Blindspot is still in Early Access on Steam. The creators, ARC Team and PUBG Studios, want to use this time to get feedback from players and improve how the game looks and plays.
The Future of PUBG Spin-Offs and Fan Concerns
Image via Krafton The troubled release of PUBG: Blindspot has made some players worried about Krafton’s other PUBG game, Black Budget. Black Budget, created by PUBG Studios, is a new extraction shooter that many FPS fans are excited about. Players are hoping this game will launch smoothly and meet the high expectations of the PUBG community, unlike Blindspot.
Currently, there’s no official release date for PUBG: Black Budget. The game has been tested with several closed alpha versions, with the latest test ending on December 22, 2025.
