As a gamer, I’ve been diving into the thrilling world of PUBG: BLINDSPOT, a game that was meticulously crafted through KRAFTON’s gaming incubation program. In this unique journey, I stumbled upon an intriguing cooperative gunplay model where teammates share a top-down view, enabling a strategic vision that sets us apart from other games. Through countless hours of refining and perfecting this concept, the game has evolved into its current form, offering an exhilarating gaming experience.
The fundamental shooting mechanics were inspired by “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: BATTLEGROUNDS,” given that PUBG STUDIOS has extensive experience in multiplayer shooter games. Therefore, we embarked on the development of this game under the supervision of PUBG STUDIOS. After brainstorming sessions, we opted to incorporate “PUBG” in the title to make it clear that it’s a shooter developed by PUBG STUDIOS. Notably, this project didn’t start with a specific original intellectual property in mind.
Question: To what extent is PUBG: BLINDSPOT linked with the initial PUBG: Battlegrounds? What connections does it have to that game’s storyline?
As a devoted fan, I’m excited about PUBG: BLINDSPOT, a spin-off that’s set in a slightly advanced dystopian world compared to PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. Here, the tournament isn’t just a game; it’s a ticket to social advancement. Meanwhile, Tythonic exerts control through Blue Chip tech. The narrative is still being shaped, so some details might change as development continues.
Blindspot’s Development After Its Demos
Question: In February, fans got a chance to test-drive PUBG: Blindspot. Compared to the version of the game presented in November, how different is this demo? What changes have been made?
The most significant update includes quicker game matching, making the game more welcoming to a larger group of players. Furthermore, two fresh characters have been incorporated, bringing the count of playable characters to 10, accompanied by gadgets specifically designed for their use. A new Team Deathmatch map has been launched, along with two additional maps tailored for Demolition Mode. In this mode, five-player teams engage in both offensive and defensive roles. The attacking team aims to position a “Decrypter” on a device named the “Crypt” to initiate hacking, then protect it during the process. Meanwhile, the defending team works to either prevent the installation of the Decrypter or halt the attackers before they manage to activate it successfully.
Q: Can you speak on any long-term plans for PUBG: Blindspot?
So far, our primary concern has been to swiftly introduce and demonstrate the game’s playability, leaving several additional features in an unfinished state. Improvements are still needed in areas such as graphical quality, immersion, and in-game communication. Players were anticipating a relaxed experience given the top-down view, but found it to be quite distinct from their initial assumptions. Consequently, our main objective is to streamline the onboarding process to assist new players in adjusting more effortlessly. However, it’s important to note that at its core, PUBG: BLINDSPOT remains a challenging multiplayer shooter, where strategy and action are intricately combined. This fundamental aspect of the game will not be altered.
Q: Can you discuss the customization options that will be available for players?
At present, our customization options are rather limited, but we’re looking to broaden that scope in the times ahead. During Steam Next Fest, we received numerous requests for features like character skins, weapon modifications, and personalized crosshairs. We are actively thinking about incorporating these ideas into our plans.
Q: What game modes will PUBG: Blindspot launch with?
Currently, our team isn’t expanding PUBG: BLINDSPOT to incorporate numerous game modes at this point in development. Instead, we’re dedicating our efforts towards perfecting and enhancing the existing ones. Consequently, it’s expected that the game will debut with only the two current modes. Although we’ve received numerous suggestions for additional modes, we need to thoughtfully weigh the possible downsides, like dividing the matchmaking queue, before making any decisions.
PUBG: BLINDSPOT Will Take On Some Hero Shooter Elements

What kind of effect could the inclusion of hero shooter components, due to various characters in PUBG: Blindspot, have on the gameplay and the overall direction of the game?
When designing characters for the game PUBG: BLINDSPOT, which includes hero shooter elements, it’s crucial that each character is unique and offers a different playing experience. We must think about how their weapons and gadgets impact the overall gameplay, and make sure their shapes are visually distinct during combat to avoid confusion.
Adding more characters to a design can make it progressively harder. Yet, I firmly think that the essence of the PUBG brand revolves around everyday people armed with firearms. Consequently, our aim is to create ordinary folks from this world, each with their preferred weapons and gadgets, instead of superheroes with extraordinary powers. This is the approach we’re following in development.
A: Moving forward, could you explain which aspects of the format drew PUBG: Blindspot to its top-down tactical shooting style? Was there any exploration beyond a 5 versus 5 setup?
As a passionate gamer, I don’t just rely on guesswork to determine what makes a game fun. Instead, I brainstorm numerous concepts and choose the one that feels the most exhilarating. After discovering that a high-speed, top-down shooter with synchronized team dynamics was captivating, we tinkered with different gameplay rules. Our experiments revealed that combat in destructible indoor settings provided the best experience, which led us to fine-tune aspects like team size, map dimensions, and destruction effects—ultimately molding the current format. Although we’ve explored other formats beyond 5v5, at this point, I firmly believe that the present 5v5 setup offers the most enjoyable gaming experience.
Q: What inspired the top-down perspective?
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve found that first-person shooters offer an incredibly immersive gaming experience, but they can also be mentally taxing and challenging to keep track of the entire battlefield. Winning in a shooter isn’t just about quick reactions; it’s also about understanding the terrain, collaborating effectively with teammates, and executing well-thought-out strategies. A bird’s-eye view can significantly enhance these aspects, offering greater strategic depth, smoother teamwork, and faster decision-making. However, many top-down military shooters have struggled to replicate the raw intensity and impact of gunplay. Our goal was to create a system where players could still rely on their marksmanship skills to win fights, ensuring that tactics and action work harmoniously together. This ambition led us to design PUBG: BLINDSPOT‘s innovative 3D aiming system, specifically tailored for a top-down perspective. Initially, the mechanics might seem a bit unusual, but with practice, players will quickly develop a keen sense of battlefield awareness while still experiencing the unique, gratifying gunplay that defines the game.
Question: How did the team behind PUBG: Blindspot approach the research for perfecting the realistic gunplay aspect of their game?
In the game “PUBG: BLINDSPOT,” we’ve relied on the knowledge and skills from “PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS” to create realistic gunplay scenes. Since there are limited opportunities for real firearm training in Korea, we’ve collaborated extensively with developers who have practical experience with “PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS” to perfect our methods.
From a bird’s eye angle, it’s challenging to fully capture the authenticity of gun handling. To maintain the intensity of shooting despite this viewpoint, we’ve adjusted factors like the strength of horizontal and vertical recoil, weapon sway, and firing mechanics. At present, we’re working on making each weapon feel unique in terms of impact. If we add weapon modding later, we intend to examine how various attachments influence recoil, sound design, and visual effects to improve the overall experience even more.
