PUBG Corporation and Krafton recently announced PUBG: Black Budget, a new game where players try to extract valuable items. This is the second PUBG game announced in 2024, following the February reveal of PUBG: Blindspot, a tactical, team-based shooter for five players.
The PUBG story started in March 2017 with the initial release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, a very popular battle royale game. It was inspired by a similar mod called DayZ: Battle Royale for the game ARMA 2, created by the same person. In July 2021, the game’s name was officially changed to PUBG: Battlegrounds, and the creators announced plans to expand PUBG into a broader entertainment franchise. A mobile version of the game came out in November 2021. Originally, the game The Callisto Protocol from Striking Distance Studios was also planned to take place in the PUBG world, far into the future.
PUBG: Black Budget Is a New Escape from Tarkov, Arc Raiders-Like Extraction Shooter
On November 21, 2025, PUBG Corporation and Krafton revealed PUBG: Black Budget, a new extraction shooter game. According to its Steam page, the game focuses on creating a tense and suspenseful experience where players try to survive on a strange island caught in a time loop and haunted by a powerful, supernatural force called the ‘Anomaly.’ Unlike PUBG: Battlegrounds, which allows players to switch between first- and third-person views, PUBG: Black Budget is mainly designed to be played from a first-person perspective. The game’s Steam page highlights these key features:
- A 2.5 x 2.5km open world
- Play sessions designed to last up to 30 minutes
- Level and squad-based matchmaking for up to 3-player squads
- 45 players per session
- PvPvE encounters
- The Anomaly shrinks the playable area during the course of a match
- Three rival factions offering unique missions and rewards tied to a loyalty system
- Meta progression through skills and permanent upgrade systems
- Customizable and upgradable base
- Research station offers narrative progression
- Extensive weapon and gear customization
PUBG: Black Budget is joining the growing world of extraction shooters at a busy moment. Last month saw the successful release of Arc Raiders from Embark Studios, and Escape from Tarkov, a leading game in the genre, just launched its full version 1.0. While PUBG: Black Budget benefits from the well-known PUBG name, it will still have tough competition when it’s released.
Fans Can Sign Up For PUBG: Black Budget’s December Closed Alpha Now
Okay, so there’s no firm release date for PUBG: Black Budget yet, but I just signed up for the closed alpha test on Steam – you should too! From what I understand, the alpha is all about testing how the combat feels – things like how fast-paced it is, whether the way you get in and out of matches is balanced, how the early parts of the game work, and how we level up. They’ve got two dates planned for it so far, which is awesome!
- Week 1: Friday, December 12 01:00 PST — Sunday, December 14 23:59 PST
- Week 2: Friday, December 19 01:00 PST — Sunday, December 21 23:59 PST
