Quarantine Zone: The Last Check recently launched and is now available to PC Game Pass subscribers. It’s a base-building game where you manage a checkpoint under attack during a zombie apocalypse, and it’s actually quite enjoyable.
A new game called Quarantine Zombies launched on Steam yesterday. It was created by the lead designer who previously worked on Quarantine Zone, and marketing highlights that it features improvements over the original, like the ability to drive, a larger open world, and updated shooting mechanics.
Quarantine Zombies Isn’t Quarantine Zone
Quarantine Zombies and Quarantine Zone are very similar games. Both use a checkpoint system where you check survivors, but Quarantine Zombies lets you explore a wider, open-world version of Chicago. While the stories are different, the core gameplay remains largely the same.
A Reddit post from November 2025 revealed that the game Quarantine Zombies was initially inspired by Quarantine Zone – the developers liked the demo. However, the final product is so similar that it could likely lead to legal issues.
Bizarrely, the post on Reddit came with a very strange promise:
We were really impressed with the demo of Quarantine Zone, and it inspired our team to build on that concept and create something new.
Experience realistic gunplay and satisfying weapon feedback in our game. You’ll not only examine infected individuals at checkpoints, but also isolate them in quarantine and track how the infection spreads. Earn cash by venturing into the infected, open-world city of Chicago in your own vehicle. Your goal: survive for 30 days until the military arrives and rescue your brother.
The game’s story mode will take several hours to complete and includes voice acting from a well-known Hollywood actor. To enhance the immersive experience, there are more than 32 million unique vocalizations from the infected enemies.
Creating 32 million distinct infected voice lines was only possible with AI technology. The use of a Hollywood actor for the voice work hints that voice replication was likely used to create the sounds of the Quarantine Zombies.
Quarantine Zombies might boast more mechanics, but more doesn’t equal better.
This is a curious situation, and we’ve contacted the developers of both games to learn more.
