As a long-time enthusiast of tactical shooters and a dedicated player of Rainbow Six Siege, I must say that the latest update, Operation Twin Shells, has left me utterly thrilled! With the introduction of Competitive Packs, it feels like my years of grinding Ranked playlists have finally paid off. The fact that these packs contain season-exclusive rewards makes the competition all the more exhilarating.
In the context of Operation Twin Shell, Rainbow Six Siege presents a unique new operator named Skopós, who stands out in the game’s nine-year history. Although Skopós is the main attraction of this operation, it also brings several fascinating additions and modifications that are essential to be aware of before starting your next ranked match.
As a gamer diving into Operation Twin Shells, I can’t wait to share all the exciting changes coming with the new Siege Cup tournament! If you’re eager to grasp what’s new this season, this guide offers an in-depth look at everything fresh and thrilling that awaits us on the battlefield.
Operator Skopós
Skopós is a newcomer to the defensive team, boasting a distinct gameplay approach that sets her apart from other operators in Rainbow Six Siege. Her backstory reveals that she endured a military accident and underwent no less than nine surgeries and rehabilitation. Now navigating with a wheelchair, Skopós’ physical constraints have not deterred her from becoming one of the elite soldiers in Rainbow Six Siege. Remarkably, she manages to make her impact on the battlefield from a distant position, showcasing an unconventional yet effective approach.
As a devoted fan, I’d put it like this: Skopós leverages her pair of V10 Pantheon Shells – her trusted combat robots that double as observation and assault devices. With a flick of a switch, she can effortlessly transition between each shell, operating them independently. When I’m commanding one of my shells, the other shell automatically stands down and safeguards itself, but it can still function as an eyes-in-the-field for me. Strategically using both combat robots grants me a kind of teleportation ability across the map. However, despite having two mechanical companions, Skopós only has one life. If my active shell is damaged in battle, it’s game over for me in that round.
Skopós serves as a dual-speed, dual-armored operator, introducing a fresh, cutting-edge PCX-33 assault rifle. This weapon can be equipped with various 1x sights for optimal use. Furthermore, her functionalities provide the option to select either impact grenades or proximity alarms.
Operator Balancing Changes
In each new season, Ubisoft rolls out numerous balance modifications, such as boosting or reducing the power of operators. This pattern holds true for Operation Twin Shells, which brings about intriguing alterations to these three specific operators:
- Dokkaebi: Unlike in previous seasons, Dokkaebi will no longer spawn with all of her Logic Bomb charges, instead she’ll begin with 0 Logic Bomb charges and gain them over time as the round progresses. She will still continue to have a maximum of two Logic Bomb charges, but players will be compelled to ensure her survival if they wish to use her utility.
- Nøkk: While Dokkaebi has undergone a nerf in Operation Twin Shell, Nøkk has received a decent buff to her Hel Presence Resistance gadget. Her gadget’s energy efficiency has been tweaked, causing it to only deplete energy when she’s in the sight of an active observation tool, or when she performs any other actions such as sprinting, vaulting, or throwing her drone.
- Solis: On the defender side, Solis’ SPEC-IO Electro Scanner has undergone a rework that now has a new Overclock feature. Unlike in prior seasons, Solis can no longer determine the identity of a gadget when pulling up her SPEC-IO scanner. Moreover, the area of detection has been constricted to a smaller HUD window. To identify the electronic type, Solis must now activate her Overclock ability at the cost of alerting her presence to nearby drones or attacker-controlled cameras. At the start of each round, Solis will receive one SPEC-IO charge, and can acquire a maximum of three charges. Each SPEC-IO scanner charge requires 25 seconds to generate, and her Overclock ability lasts for 10 seconds once activated.
Utility Balancing Changes
In addition to operator adjustments, the latest season also introduces some utility modifications beneficial for both offensive and defensive players. Among these enhancements are the Claymore, Proximity Alarm, and Drones. However, it’s important to note that the modification to the Claymore is aimed at addressing Oryx’s capability of skipping the fuse timer specifically. Here’s a breakdown of how each utility has been updated in this season of Siege:
- Claymore: Unlike in previous seasons, claymores will no longer have a fuse timer in Operation Twin Shells and will explode instantly when an opponent walks into it. This tweak prevents Oryx from sprinting past the claymore’s blast radius.
- Proximity Alarm: These detection devices will no longer earn you points when triggered by an attacker. So, it’s just a scoring change with no major gameplay implications.
- Drones: All standard and Operator-specific drones will now have a speed boost feature, allowing them to cover longer distances quickly. The speed boost lasts for a short duration and can be reused after a cooldown period.
Siege Cup
As a gamer, I’m pumped about diving into Operation Twin Shells with Rainbow Six Siege! They’ve rolled out the Siege Cup beta, an opportunity for PC gamers like me to join branching tournaments. If I make it big, I could score some exclusive in-game rewards. Right now, it’s just for PC players, but they’re planning to expand it to consoles down the line.
During the initial two weeks of each season, the Siege Cup competition will take place. To participate with your team, you’ll need to register for the cup and then await a notification from Ubisoft.
New In-Game Rewards
From now on in Rainbow Six Siege, there will be a fresh prize bundle called “Competitive Packs” that hold season-specific rewards. Players can secure these packs using a new type of currency, “Competitive Coins,” which are earned this season by participating in the Siege Cup or Ranked game modes.
1v1 Custom Game Preset
In the latest update, you now have the freedom to design personalized one-versus-one battles with your friends on your preferred playfield. The Duel settings offer options for both quick matches (consisting of 6 rounds) and extended ones (comprising 14 rounds). Notably, roles will alternate between players at the conclusion of each round.
Versus AI 2.0
In “Rainbow Six Siege,” during the “Operation Deep Freeze,” the Versus AI mode was introduced, enabling you to engage intelligent AI defenders while assuming an attacking role. With the upgrade to Versus AI 2.0, you can now participate in a complete match against an AI team that assumes both attacking and defending roles, with the capacity to switch roles after two rounds. Additionally, you have the option to select between Beginner and Advanced difficulties based on your familiarity with the game.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the AI opponents here seem to have learned some tricks straight from the battlefield. They appear to have studied countless PvP matchups and have adapted their strategies accordingly. In other words, they’re not just following a script; they’re adapting and reacting in real time, much like seasoned players I’ve faced off against before.
Quality Of Life Improvements/Changes
Ultimately, Operation Twin Shell introduces several aspects that contribute to lifestyle modifications within Rainbow Six Siege, with the objective of enhancing your gaming experience.
- Disable Motion Blur: You can now disable motion blur under the options, and this setting applies specifically to the blur effect experienced when your character gets shot. Disabling motion blur removes this effect, allowing you to clearly see where you’re being shot at from.
- Shooting Range During Matchmaking: Now you can jump into the shooting range while waiting for a ranked game at 3 AM in the morning. Jokes aside, the shooting range will now be fully accessible during matchmaking, allowing you to brush up on your aiming skills.
- Vulkan API Removed: PC players will no longer have the option to launch Rainbow Six Siege with the Vulkan API, but it has been replaced with the DirectX12 API. According to Ubisoft, the decision to remove the Vulkan API stemmed from concerns about maintaining the game’s overall health. However, it’s unclear what Ubisoft meant by that statement. Fortunately, players who dislike DX12 API still have the option to run the game on DX11.
