Rainbow Six Siege has gone free-to-play, but free players are missing out on some key content.
To celebrate reaching ten years since its initial release, Ubisoft unveiled a significant expansion for Rainbow Six Siege titled “Rainbow Six Siege X.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled about the upcoming changes! In the next season, they’re giving our favorite maps a facelift by enhancing lighting, shadows, and resolution. Plus, we can expect even more exciting 5v5 battles on those revamped maps. Can’t wait to dive back in!
Apart from that, it enhances the fresh player’s journey, introduces a new 6v6 Dual Front gameplay, and incorporates an advanced anti-cheat mechanism as well.
For many gamers, the most significant shift might be the transition to a free-to-play model, although there are limitations for those who don’t pay, restricting their abilities within the game.
Free-To-Play, But…
In Rainbow Six Siege X, there are three levels designed for novice players: the standard edition which is free, the Elite Edition, and the top-tier Ultimate Edition.
In the free version, you’ll find 26 operators at your disposal, with additional ones available for purchase or unlocking. It also includes Quick Match, Unranked, and Dual Front game modes.
For those eager to engage in the Ranked mode, it’s necessary to invest in either the Elite Edition, priced at $20, which includes Ranked, Siege Cup, and an additional 16 operators, or the Ultimate Edition, costing $40, offering a total of 52 extra operators plus four additional cosmetic items.
Ubisoft has additionally confirmed that those who purchased the game prior to the launch of Siege X will enjoy premium membership, encompassing additional gameplay modes and operators. Moreover, their advancement and in-game items will be seamlessly transferred across.
Based on the stats from SteamDB, the launch of Siege X seems to have significantly increased the number of players. It’s intriguing to observe the long-term effects that transitioning to a free-to-play model might have on the game’s community.
The reactions to the latest change in our game on Steam have varied, yet this is normal when established games undergo significant updates.
Regardless, this significant update is quite a shift for the game that’s been around for nearly a decade. By making the game free, we aim to encourage more people to join, hoping it strengthens our gaming community. For now, it appears to be drawing in new players, but we’ll have to wait and see how this decision ultimately impacts the game in the long run.
