Rare’s Cancelled Everwild Screenshots Emerge, Report Claims

Screenshots from Rare’s cancelled multiplayer title Everwild have surfaced, one report claims.

Everwild, a promising multiplayer game set in a forest world, was announced by Rare in 2019 as a major Xbox title. Although development continued and the game hadn’t been officially cancelled, it was recently affected by Microsoft’s layoffs and ultimately scrapped, along with other projects like Perfect Dark and Project Blackbird. Recently, screenshots of gameplay and the game’s interface, which were never released publicly, have surfaced, offering a glimpse of what could have been.

Screenshots of Rare’s upcoming game, Everwild, have surfaced online thanks to a leak on the website Mp1st, which originally shared Perfect Dark concept art. The images, which you can view here, show early versions of menus, characters that appear similar to those in the initial reveal trailer, and some of the game’s environments. They also hint at a gameplay mechanic involving gardening. It’s important to remember that these screenshots haven’t been officially confirmed, so this information should be treated as unverified.

The game Everwild was reportedly playable not long ago and seemed to be progressing well. Sadly, it may never be released, though it’s interesting to see what the game could have been. Rare hasn’t released many games since being acquired by Microsoft, and with Sea of Thieves as their only major new franchise, Everwild would have offered a refreshing change of pace. What Rare and Microsoft will work on next remains a mystery, despite speculation about a possible return for Banjo-Kazooie.
