Ratatan is a cooperative rhythm game with action elements, jointly created by Hiroyuki Kotani, producer of the popular Patapon series launched in 2007 for PSP, and Tokyo Virtual Theory (TVT). In this game, players take on the role of Ratatan, issuing commands to Cobun’s armies through enchanted instruments, leading them into battle against adversaries.

Beyond just attack and defense patterns, the Ratatan characters also possess unique abilities that enable free movement, each adding a distinctive flair to the game’s musical theme. When players successfully match the rhythm sequences, they trigger a “fever mode,” during which the background music dynamically adjusts, and the characters engage in an array of actions.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the innovative incorporation of the Roguelike system in Ratatan. With each thrilling adventure, Ratatan and its Cobun receive a unique assortment of power-ups and rewards that are different every time we clash in battle. This unpredictability adds an exciting layer to the game, ensuring that no two adventures are ever the same. The diverse effects of these power-ups not only spice up the gameplay but also expand its potential, making each experience fresh and engaging.

Featuring Nelnal’s artistic touch as the game illustrator and character designer, this updated version offers enhanced graphics and an expanded cast of characters. New content has been introduced, such as a fresh system, multiple player mini-games, and additional features. To ensure smooth and stable online multiplayer experience, it leverages TVT’s proprietary “Theory Engine.

Ratatan will be coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PS4, and Xbox Series X in 2025.
