Rayman Remake Development Bolstered by Former Prince of Persia Team

As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless adventures etched deep into my gaming history, I can’t help but feel a twinge of bittersweet emotion upon hearing about the exodus of Prince of Persia developers to the Rayman Remake project. The news reminds me of the classic game of musical chairs – albeit a far more complex and high-stakes version where the chairs are AAA titles, the music is the ever-changing tunes of corporate decision-making, and the players are some of the most talented minds in gaming.

Yesterday, news surfaced about the (once) development team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. It’s been alleged that the team has been disbanded and a sequel pitch for the game was rejected by Ubisoft, who apparently made it known only weeks after the game’s release that such actions were imminent.

At present, TopMob is sharing exclusive information about the former Prince of Persia team members who have moved to collaborate with a different group. This particular team is currently involved in the development of a Rayman Remake, but there seem to be some challenges along the way.

From One to Another

According to our reliable sources, it seems that an unannounced remake of Rayman is currently in the works, going by the code name ‘Project Steambot’. This project is being spearheaded by a team predominantly based at Ubisoft Milan, who have collectively worked on over two dozen Ubisoft games over the past two decades.

Reports indicate that Michel Ancel, the mastermind behind Rayman (and other series like Beyond Good & Evil), is serving as an advisor for our project. However, this decision has sparked some apprehension among team members, primarily due to a ‘toxic leadership’ scandal involving Ancel, which was highlighted by a French news outlet in 2020.

It’s sufficient to say that the Rayman Remake project has received some unfavorable attention within Ubisoft, with Ancel merely involved in a consultative role.

Approximately a dozen developers who were previously part of the Prince of Persia team that disbanded have since shifted their focus to work on the Rayman Remake. Meanwhile, other members from that same team have adapted to work on Beyond Good & Evil 2 and an upcoming Ghost Recon project.
