The community manager for the game *Ready or Not* was fired after making a comment online following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Void Interactive, the company that created and publishes *Ready or Not*, confirmed the firing and stated that the former employee’s views didn’t represent the company’s own.
During a public speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10th, Kirk was fatally shot in the neck. He was immediately taken to a hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. The shocking killing quickly drew widespread attention, sparking intense debate about gun violence and freedom of speech.
Void Interactive Fires Community Manager Over Charlie Kirk Comment
The gaming community was already buzzing about a code discovered in *Helldivers 2* when the community manager for the tactical shooter *Ready or Not*, known as Kaminsky, was fired. The issue stemmed from a conversation on the game’s Discord server. A user suggested blocking the name ‘Kirk’ to avoid political discussions, and screenshots show Kaminsky responding that they had added it to the blocked list. Kaminsky then made a controversial statement, saying they had just been talking about Kirk’s death and that “Nothing of value was lost.” Void Interactive, the game developer, announced the end of their partnership with Kaminsky in a Steam update, stating they are focused on maintaining a respectful and professional community around *Ready or Not*. The update did not mention Kaminsky by name.
The reaction to Kirk’s death has extended to the media, with some journalists losing their jobs after making comments their employers considered unacceptable. Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show was temporarily suspended following a monologue where he criticized those associated with the MAGA movement for blaming liberals for Kirk’s death. Additionally, the online platform *Roblox* has removed several games in response to the assassination.

Kaminsky isn’t the only gaming professional to face job loss after commenting on the Kirk incident. Around a week prior, Drew Harrison, a senior character artist at *Ghost of Tsushima* developer Sucker Punch Productions, was also fired. This followed a joke she made on Bluesky, suggesting the killer’s name should be Mario – a reference to the alleged murderer of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Luigi Mangione, and a thematic pairing with the Nintendo character.
