Takehiko Inoue’s popular basketball manga, “Real,” is set to release a new chapter soon. Following the conclusion of his renowned work, “Slam Dunk,” Inoue began a new basketball series titled “Real.” Unlike “Slam Dunk” which was published in Shonen Jump (home to “One Piece” and “Sakamoto Days”), “Real” is serialized in Young Jump, Shueisha’s largest magazine for mature audiences that also houses “Oshi no Ko” and “Kingdom.
This manga, titled “Real,” focuses on wheelchair basketball and is one of the rare sports comics that highlights a Paralympic sport. For some, it surpasses the popularity of “Slam Dunk,” though they are separate series with some speculating they might share the same universe. The main characters in this manga are often marginalized individuals who passionately play basketball. Originally serialized since 1999, the comic experienced a long break from 2014 to 2019. Excitingly, a new chapter is set for release later this month!
Real Chapter 100 Release Date
Despite being a weekly publication, Young Jump releases a fresh chapter by Inoue approximately every 3 months – Chapter 99 was released in November 2024. Although the series maintains a consistent release pattern, the frequency can be misleading to some readers.
In the forthcoming issue of “Young Jump,” scheduled for February 26, 2025, Chapter 100 will be unveiled. As of now, it’s tentative that Chapter 101 will arrive in May, but this information is subject to confirmation.
Where to Read Real Officially

New content is being incorporated into the YanJan platform (similar to Young Jump’s Shonen Jump+ service), which is available in Japanese. A selection of chapters are accessible at no charge, while others require coins to be purchased for reading.
VIZ Media acquires the rights to distribute the series in the U.S., but regrettably, chapters aren’t released concurrently with their Japanese debut by VIZ. Unlike Shonen Jump which delivers chapters worldwide simultaneously, most Young Jump titles are not published at the same time, making it necessary for fans to wait for the next volume to stay updated on the series.
Another Famous Manga By Inoue Is On Hiatus
It’s worth noting that Takehiko Inoue didn’t pause his creative journey with “Real” alone. Another well-known series penned by him, “Vagabond,” has also experienced lengthy interruptions.
Unlike Real, it appears that Vagabond is not coming back immediately as its last chapter was published in 2015. However, there are animation studios expressing interest in bringing Vagabond to life once again.
In North America, the genuine publications come from VIZ Media. The most recent book, which is Volume 15, has been recently released by VIZ, with a total of 16 volumes already available in Japan.
