Summary
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game ceases all support after reaching “full potential” following surge in new players.
- Last patch with tangible content to release this month, future updates geared towards transition to peer-to-peer matchmaking.
- Developers moving on to next project without disclosing details, encourage players to “stay tuned.”
Unlike many games that experience a spike in player numbers when they become free through PlayStation Plus, one of the previous month’s offerings didn’t seem to maintain its initial popularity.
The popular multiplayer game, that experienced a significant growth in popularity last month due to an influx of new players from PlayStation Plus, will no longer receive updates or technical assistance for its gameplay and features.
Multiplayer Horror Game Ends All Support As It Has Reached “Full Potential” Says Devs

Last month, Sony tossed me The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as part of the April lineup for PlayStation Plus’ free games. Now, barely a month later, Gun Interactive has dropped a bombshell: they’re ceasing all updates for the game. That means no more content drops, and more worryingly, no more support.
This month will see the final release of the patch containing any tangible content. However, players should anticipate regular updates during the game’s shift towards peer-to-peer matchmaking.
In a recent blog post, the studio has confirmed that “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” will no longer receive any additional content, updates, or fixes beyond the upcoming May patch. This decision means no new DLC, balance adjustments, or bug corrections will be forthcoming. However, players can anticipate a few more patches to facilitate a transition towards peer-to-peer matchmaking. The game will remain available for purchase and play, and the community team will continue their engagement with players as they celebrate the game with all its passionate fans.
Regarding the developers, they’ve shifted focus to a new endeavor without disclosing details. They merely asked gamers to keep an eye out for updates.
In August 2023, the multiplayer version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, titled “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: Asymmetrical Survival Horror Experience,” was unveiled. This game is a joint production between Sumo Nottingham (the developers) and Gun Interactive (publishers).
Ever since its debut, it has continually been enhanced with numerous content additions (both free and paid), gameplay adjustments, and other improvements. Remarkably, it was initially well-received by critics, earning a “Strong” rating on Open Critic. Although a release on PlayStation Plus was intended to rejuvenate the game, this boost wasn’t sufficient for developers to dedicate further support to it.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game will stay active for the time being and is not getting removed from online stores, so players can still buy it. Additionally, their team will continue to engage with the player community. However, don’t anticipate any new events, cosmetic updates, or modifications in gameplay.
