The sequel to “Grounded,” developed by Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos Montreal, has made its way into Xbox’s top 10 most-played games, signifying a notable achievement for the development teams. Despite facing stiff competition from more prominent titles that rank higher, the strong interest from players since its early access launch suggests that “Grounded 2” has been performing exceptionally well.

The sequel to Obsidian Entertainment’s survival action-adventure game “Grounded,” initially released on early access in 2020, launched into its own early access phase on July 29 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. With Xbox Game Studios taking care of publishing, it was one of several games available from day one on Xbox Game Pass in July. This addition to the subscription service is expected to have significantly boosted its player count.

After a 10-day period following its early access release, “Grounded 2” has made it to the 10th spot on Xbox’s most-played games list, as per Xbox’s official data. According to Klobrille on Bluesky, it has even climbed up to the 9th position. While it hasn’t yet reached the top positions, this is still a notable achievement given the games that occupy the top nine slots. Notably, well-known free-to-play Xbox games like “Fortnite” and “Roblox” hold the first and second spots respectively, with “Rocket League” claiming seventh. Similarly, another Game Pass game, “Minecraft,” currently sits in fourth, while popular sports games “NBA 2K25” and “EA Sports College Football 26” are ahead of “Grounded 2”.

According to Steam data, Grounded 2 is receiving positive responses on PC as well, although it doesn’t quite match the success it has seen on Xbox. With over 8,700 user reviews, the game currently resides in Steam’s “Mostly Positive” category, boasting a 78% approval rating from players. The game has peaked with almost 49,000 concurrent players at once on Steam, and while the numbers have decreased since the early access launch, its peak player count within the last 24 hours still hovers around half of that maximum.

As a gamer, I’ve been thrilled to see how well the game resembling ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’ has been performing since its early days. But there’s still a lot of work ahead before we can get our hands on the final version. It took about two years for the original ‘Grounded’, and looking at the roadmap for ‘Grounded 2’, it seems we’ve got big updates coming up this fall, winter, next summer, and beyond. These updates include new creatures, armor, weapons, tools, and exciting additions like ziplines and passive mutations.
