Red Dead Redemption May Finally Be Coming to PC

Highlights

  • Red Dead Redemption may finally be coming to PC, hints an updated PlayStation Store description.
  • The PC port may include enhancements like increased resolutions and framerate, as well as the Undead Nightmare DLC.

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and disbelief at the potential news of Red Dead Redemption gracing our PC screens. If you remember, I was one of those who eagerly waited for this masterpiece to arrive on PC back in 2010, only to be left disappointed. But alas, it seems the universe has finally heard my plea!

It appears that the long-awaited PC version of the game “Red Dead Redemption,” initially released in 2010, might be on its way, hinted by an unusual update in the game’s PlayStation Store description. For years, fans of Rockstar Games have been clamoring for a PC release of “Red Dead Redemption,” and it seems that their wait could soon come to an end.

Initially only playable on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rockstar Games eventually released the hit action-adventure game “Red Dead Redemption” for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in August 2023. However, instead of being greeted with enthusiasm, the game quickly climbed the PlayStation Network chart only to be panned by fans due to its status as a port rather than a remaster. Additionally, players were displeased about the absence of new content in the PS4 and Switch versions of “Red Dead Redemption” and the $50 price tag attached to it.

Approaching one year since the launch of Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Switch, there are signs suggesting that the highly acclaimed game may make its debut on PC. On the game’s PlayStation Store page, an updated description now mentions a PC version of Red Dead Redemption. Although a listing for the PC version has yet to materialize, the revised description states that the title is “now available on PC for the very first time.” It remains unclear why details of a PC port have surfaced on a PSN listing. However, Video Games Chronicle (VGC) pointed out that this description appears to be fairly recent as an internet archive site does not show any mention of a PC version prior to April 2024.

PSN Listing Accidentally Reveals Red Dead Redemption PC Port

Toward the bottom of the new description, it’s noted that the port encompasses all updates from the 2023 console editions along with computer-specific improvements like high-resolution and frame rate support, multi-monitor compatibility, spatial surround sound, and additional features. Additionally, it seems that the PC version of Red Dead Redemption may incorporate Undead Nightmare, a well-liked zombie-themed DLC initially launched in 2010, shortly following the game’s initial release.

Though you can’t buy a current-gen edition of the game “Red Dead Redemption”, it now runs at 60 FPS on the PlayStation 5, thanks to an update released in October 2023. This unexpected upgrade has sparked debate as Rockstar opted not to create native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S when re-releasing the game for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

It appears that Red Dead Redemption may be making its way to PC, but those anticipating a contemporary console release might find themselves disappointed. With Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date drawing nearer and Rockstar Games focusing on an update for a game that is 14 years old seems improbable, it’s highly unlikely they would allocate resources to create a current-gen remaster. However, the dedication of the modding community could result in Red Dead Redemption’s PC version appearing more than just a simple port.
